#teawarewednesday my beloved #Somayaki #kyusu an older piece, most the gold has been rubbed off but you can see the ghostly outline of horses along the top. Marked with the kiln name rather than the typical made in Japan stamp, ache instead of the usual double wall Sakura design it has seashells. Somayaki has been around since the 1600s, so the legends go, the horse design requested by a feudal lord. It is a beautiful combination of apple ash and sumi kannyu glaze. From what I understand, the original kiln was destroyed by the earthquake and Fukushima disaster, the lead craftsman died shortly after, a new kiln was opened but I have not seen any new pieces. I adore Somayaki, it will always be my favourite style of Japanese pottery, my collection is somewhat small and I hope to grow it some day, but this pot is the shining jewel of my collection. Sadly I rarely use it since it is kinda large, but I love pulling it out at family events and telling anyone who will listen its story. #teagear #teapot
