Briar

poison: vices/bad habits? what are they? how do they affect your OC?

lmao the first thing that jumps to mind is that sometimes Briar doesn’t know whether to be quiet or to keep talking and sometimes that makes things awkward or in bad taste. But at worst that just makes things awkward sometimes.Hmm I think a subtle, but big one, is that she just...doesn’t take care of herself sometimes. Briar’s first thought is to others and it’s sometimes at her own expense.Like she burns the candle at both ends a majority of the time and if she didn’t have people looking out for her she’d suffer for it. Briar has more than once worked herself to exhaustion if someone needed something from her. And in battle as a Crusader, she is so given to the cause of protecting others that she will do so without a thought to her own safety more often than not. Another thing is she’s often “keeping tabs” on people, remembering little things they do or say that peak her interest and tucking them away for later. It’s well intentioned enough, and usually is, but often times it can be utilized as a manipulation instead if she feels the need. And that’s the thing, it’s well intentioned. She does this when she’s dealing with someone unfavorable, to bad people like skeevy nobels/politicians. But it’s something she has to keep in check because justifying such things is a slippery slope.

psyche: what’s their head space like? do they have any mental illnesses? how do they process difficult or emotional situations? what are their coping mechanisms?

Briar’s headspace is always interesting to step into, and it’s like…I wouldn’t say messy exactly…more like always in flux. And there’s a lot going on, possibilities, notes, stray thoughts, examinations of everyone’s words and body language, quick assessments, potential jokes, puns, innuendos [aka this would make Mel blush probably]. And it’s like…run on sentences of inner dialog, all the time, I think here particularly she may be prone to talking aloud to sort them out since Norn bards are primarily orators. I’m not like educated in enough mental illnesses to positively say whether she does or not for sure…In terms of difficult/emotional situations I think its highly dependent on what it is, but regardless Briar is at a certain stress point, unable to hide exactly how she feels about a situation. Which might be shocking when first experienced because she tries quite hard to be composed. But either way she will voice her opinion, and at that point she may not mind if it stings. That’s a coping mechanism as well, talking. Often she’ll keep saying words and hope something of it comes out right. Otherwise she needs to go out into the fresh air, or just do something with her hands, which often comes in the form of playing music.

Afton

ufo: identity! what are some key identifying qualities or traits of your OC(s)? how to they identify in regards to gender/sexuality?

I think probably everyone’s first impression of [assuming he’s not currently shouting orders] Afton is how he has the air of a college professor. He feels relaxed and honestly wants everyone to do good and improve on themselves, and he knows when to give that little push so his charge will have that breakthrough to reach the potential he knows they have in him. He’s also, despite being a well traveled 4th born, still fascinated with the world and its marvels. He loves to encounter new things and then immediately tell people about it. Also a really specific one, he loves puns. He like, is never able to come up with them himself, but he’s just so in love with the cleverness of wordplay that he will never understand why everyone else is cringing.Afton probably regards himself as genderless being that he is a plant loljfkds and he’s very factual about that. That being said he would probably be just as comfortable in a dress as in pants, but he’s very acrobatic in battle and would rather not get tangled in excess cloth so pants it is. He’s likely to be demi-panromantic but the situation has not come up lol.

parachute: who does your OC(s) trust the most? who makes them feel safe? who would they do absolutely anything for?

#squad: who's friends with who? what are the squad dynamics like?

GOING RIGHT FOR THE THROAT I SEE. I think Lace’s only friend right now is Coalyard! Because he lives with her he becomes very sympathetic to her, even after Siobhan warns him about her. If you wanna get technical you might be able to say the revenant spirits she starts channeling are sort of friends, too. She’s definitely on the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to the eternal spirits of the mists.

I’d be shocked if Lace didn’t have some form of PTSD after everything. I imagine there are parts of her resurrection that she remembers and was in serious pain during, and she probably refuses to go any further west than Kryta. I think she disassociates a lot these days.

conspiracy theory: what are your OC's beliefs? are they skeptics or do they believe easily? who acts on blind faith? who needs to see to believe?

Coalyard (real name Caius Spliteye) never really developed any kind of strong belief system; he sort of floats through life. Being raised as a human people around him often assumed he was devout to the Six, and those who knew him as a charr assumed he hated the idea of gods. He mostly keeps his head down and tries not to think about that sort of thing. He also has trouble trusting anything he can see because he was raised around so much mesmer magic. The “unreality” things he sees frequently don’t help with this.

Yellow: What makes them the most happy?

PROBABLY..... a day where she doesn’t fall down, laughs. Being resurrected has definitely changed a lot of her values, or at least brought a lot of the old ones that got buried to the front. She still loves cubs, and will interact with them at every opportunity. Unfortunately because of her appearance and where she’s now living in Ebonhawke, those interactions are few and far between. But she’s still happiest taking care of little ones.

Orange: If they could change anything in the world, what would they change?

16. Which does your character idealize the most: happiness or success?

This sounds strange to say for someone who consistently works for the happiness of others, and who believes a persons happiness is way more important and better to strive for. But in terms of idealizing, I think it is actually success. Like in the end she will always choose happiness, but to her that is simply a truth that one should strive for.Secretly Briar has always compared herself to heros like her father. Like, she would consider herself a successful bard, but if you were to ask if she were a successful soldier, or if she thought herself a notable amoung norn, she would immediately humble and say she’s a work in progress. Despite having done a lot, Briar doesn’t think she’s actually accomplished much in life because of these comparisons. She would consider herself worldly and well traveled at best. She has a sort of disconnect between what she does and what she thinks she should be doing. In Briar’s mind, what she’s good at is just a small thing. So Briar is always left thinking she’s short of a mark and if she could just get there, she’d be better for it.lol I am glad Briar has friends who will remind her what she does is just as important. 

19. What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before?

This is hard because Briar is in general a forgiving and understanding person and talking is what she does best. She’s yet to ruin a relationship.

 I feel like if we were to ask Mel lol, it’s that Briar is always taking way too many risks to her life even considering their occupation. Because she makes a lot of gambles and preserving her life is not usually part of them. As noble as that is Mel would still like to have Briar alive at the end of the day.I think Briar’s also prone to keeping all her stress internal so as not to worry or trouble anyone, but this will eventually cause her to snap at something/someone unexpectedly.I do however know that she can get particularly indignant when people put her own integrity or motives into question. If someone suggests Briar is untrustworthy or even part of the problem, she is a bit quick to take it as a personal insult, even if the suggestion was not of her but of people in general. Once this happens she lashes back and despite herself can use manipulative words and make it seem as if the other person is the guilty party. This could range from seeming childishly selfish to being really bad and dragging out the other persons flaws while shes at it. This would be the most likely to cause real damage in terms of a relationshipShe will hate herself for it later and if the other person doesnt approach first she may take a while to drum up the courage to apologize just because she feels so low for it
