Teaching project.
So for my NUR 210 course Nursing Introduction to Roles & Responsibilities one of our largest tasks was to create/plan/execute a community teaching project.
I originally chose to present my project to the retired sisters who live in essentially a rest home for older religious sisters. But I encountered a few set backs along the way. First I had a mis communication of time and showed up an hour late, and the second time the presentation had to be canceled because of Hurricane Sandy.
I ended up doing my teaching project in one of the freshman residence halls on campus. My topic was: Hypertension in young adults: Diets that effect blood pressure, an adaption from my original plan: Hypertension in older adults: Foods to avoid consuming.
I was really nervous about presenting, but I think it went quite well. There were about 10 Freshman students (5male, 5 female) and they all at least pretended to be interested.
At the end of my presentation I offered to take the blood pressure of those who were interested as a demonstration. Most were very interested in finding out what their readings were.
Overall, I liked being able to have the opportunity to teach this project. It was fun, a little nerve wracking, but a great learning experience. Now I just need to know what I got on my reflection paper.
