1. I have one class that’s absolutely OBSESSED with the astrologer from stage 19-20. Like had a student write 18 pages of fic about the astrologer’s background lore (not canon) and read it out to the class. Do you KNOW how difficult it is to get a class of 13 year olds to listen for 18 pages of reading????? (They’re also specifically obsessed with the actor for the astrologer on the CLC web portal because he has such a stellar performance in one of the skit videos)

2. The cogi assassination plot is. So. Fucking. Good!!!!! So much drama!!! So much character analysis and excellent characterization!!! And then it all ties together meeting rufus in “tribunus”

There have been a number of incidents of racism and sexism that have made headlines in classics, but one of the persistent offenders seems to be the Paideia institute:

I have personally got a couple of independent confirmations of their disrespect for women and minorities from women though some back channels.  If you search "sportula Paideia" in the latin facebook groups and on twitter more will come up.  

@quomododragon, here’s another idea for you.  

You can make these books, and some matching paper dolls.  By moving the dolls around inside the ‘rooms’ of the paper dollhouse, you can get students talking about the difference between in + ablative or in + accusative; trans as opposed to per, and other prepositional phrases.  You can also use them to prompt students to develop vocabulary lists for four different rooms in a house, or four different regions of the Roman Empire, and use them to talk about travel.  As a writing prompt, set up four such books on four separate tables, and have students write in Latin about what they see going on in several rooms.  

Ok, so everyone is worried we are going to create a dialect of Latin by speaking it and that eventually that dialect of Latin is going to evolve to the point that it is too far from classical Latin to help you understand Cicero. In that vein I wonder what corrupt barbarisms we have created to date. Please add to the list and tell me, is this your fear too?

Puellex = gender neutral young person (seems like this fills an imprortant need!)

Nerdus = because sometimes “umbraticus” is not enough

Pippiatorium = the twitters

Prosopobiblion = the facebooks. A Greek-derived word. Why? No idea.
