I’m curious. Given my age and the state that I live in, I feel that I was prepared well in regards to teaching reading properly. But, I want to know what the experience has been like for others.

- Did your teacher preparation program prepare you to teach phonics, cueing, another method? Do you feel it did not prepare you teach teach reading at all?

- Do you feel, "I didn't really know anything about how kids learn to read when I started teaching," and/or “Cueing was appealing because they didn't know what else to do.”?

- I still don’t really know how to teach reading, I just use the district provided curriculum. (If this is you, you’re not alone. I highly suggest you begin by reading the attached article.)

- What state/country do you teach in? How long have you been teaching? What decade/years did you take your teacher preparation program? How old are you?

- If you’ve been teaching for many years or in different states, how have the methods of teaching reading varied?

- Have you worked for schools that enforce outdated methods of teaching reading? Do you currently need to teach using these methods? (memorizing, using context to guess words, skipping words they don't know and no to little phonics; Goodman, Dick and Jane, Three Cueing, MSV, Picture Power, Lips Fish, Eagle Eye, Skippy Frog, Fountas and Pinnell)
