Can I just remind everyone reading this that the whole story is canonically told from the point of view of the ..... HOBBITS.

You don't need to, since it's not true. The POV in LOTR predominantly comes from the hobbits, but not exclusively—as with Éowyn and Faramir's romance (the scenes this post is essentially about), which is told from the POV of, well, Éowyn and Faramir. Faramir having to stoop down to kiss Éowyn's forehead, say, is not Merry's POV—Merry isn't even there.

The hobbits are canonically the compilers of the tale (in-story), but that doesn't make theirs the only perspective. They definitely aren't supposed to have written everything in the Appendices, which a bunch of the quotes come from (e.g. "The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen" has a Dúnadan author, in-universe).

no, yeah, i’ve read the book, i know what happened, like, what they did next.  i’m not asking what crowley and aziraphale did after they were done being nanny and gardener.  we know that.

what i’m asking is what happened to warlock, emotionally, after the two people he’d been relying on in his  formative years quit the same day and he never saw them again and couldn’t even prove they’d ever really existed

I don't have my copy of the book cause I'm currently lending it, so I can't quite it but we also missed him trying to read a novel but he can't cause the end of the world is coming, he's got anxiety, and everything sucks and he can't even sleep through the rest of the century!

Yes! Absolutely! Aziraphale was made to be a guardian, he can't help himself. He's tried to protect that anxious demon ever after. (i.g. Holy Water; all the Holy Water) ((which is either ironic or the foil to Crowley's "hero" antics, I can't decide which))

That is exactly my thought too. Aziraphale might reject being a soldier for Heaven, but he still fully embraces being a guardian. 

I do think that was why he was evasive with God when She asked him about his flaming sword. It wasn’t about just saving his own neck, he seems willing to put his head on the chop if he feels it’s necessary. This was about protecting Adam and Eve from whatever might happen if Heaven knew they had the sword of a cherub. 

And I 100% agree that it carries into his relationship with Crowley. Sometimes, it leads to Aziraphale misunderstanding Crowley like in 1862 when he gets so upset over the possibility of Crowley using holy water to destroy himself. But I think that happened because it ties into another one of Aziraphale’s weaknesses: feeling that he should “know best” and shielding others from things that he really shouldn’t. Thus, his protective nature backfired on him.

As if she wasn't already awesome for being a risk taker in the first chapter, first kidnapping and she's already challenging the "understanding" all of Metrocity has about "the game".

"you know me, I don't read" that's a lie! Well maybe a half truth. Crowley was trying to read a novel the day before Armagedidn't, but he probably does most of his reading by listening to Aziraphale talk extensively about his books.

Oh I agree. We know that, at the very least, he likes to read astronomy books....

I also agree 100% that a lot of Crowley’s reading is by way of a sort-of osmosis with Aziraphale doing the reading out loud. It fits perfectly with two of my own head canons that:

1. Crowley’s snake eyes aren’t well suited for reading, so audiobooks are definitely useful for him.

As soon as I saw those tags on @aziraphalelookedwretched​ ‘s reblog of that post, I knew I had to add them, because it’s so true. Baking is exact and has rules and steps that have to be followed....unlike cooking which can be much more flexible and open to spur-of-the-moment interpretation. 

Or maybe to put it another way: for baking, the art is all about the presentation of proven forms...which is something that Aziraphale would definitely appreciate. Whereas cooking’s art is more in the personality of the cook coming through the composition of the dish....something that Crowley would get behind.
