This year, members of the Tarleton campus joined the GSA in planting zinnias in memorial for the 82 lives lost in 2014 due to transphobia. Kyle Carlberg read the list of names as two helpers sprinkled dirt into the participants' cups for each name read. During the middle of the list, students and faculty planted their zinnia seeds. At the end, the helpers poured water into the cups. As Carlberg noted, this is to give the plants a fighting chance for the upcoming year. We'd like to thank our community members that turned out for our memorial. It means a lot to have grown this year, from 15 to 25 participants. The love and support we feel on campus means everything.

My university's vigil for Transgender Day of Remembrance, so proud of my friends, my university and UEA Pride for creating such a magical week.
Went to a TDoR observance at the LGBT center in Milwaukee last night, which...I don't know if there's any way for that to be something other than awkward and very, very painful. It was fairly cis, but less than feared. It was a little stingingly camp-activity inclusive. It was the first time I was brave enough to claim the right to grieve publicly and feel connected to other trans people through our sadness.
The list of names fumblingly read aloud by the audience members cajoled into participating was largely Brazilian. There was a certain horror in hearing even the names of the murdered who were known being stumbled over by USicans. We didn't know you; we can never know you; we don't know you in this moment. We wish we could.
Not for the first time I'm relieved that my job is third-shift and low on intellectual or social requirements. I'm going to be useless for a while to do anything except to write my family and in and oblique and dysfunctional way thank them for knowing who I am.
