So I got in to bookbinding a few months ago and finally made a collection of all my batjokes stories. Since money is tight I told myself to stick to only supplies I already owned, so while these wouldn’t be my first choice of endpapers for this material, I still think the skulls are cute. The cover art was hand foiled with a foil quill pen and took a little under 3.5 hours.
Huge shoutout to everyone in the Renegade server for lending me their opinions and advice while I designed this little chonker 🙏🏻💜
Literally so obsessed with The Batman Who Laughs and the feral little joker-esque robins that follow him around on chained leashes you don’t understand
Something that bothers me about The Batman Who Laughs is that, at a high level, I think he’s actually a really good character concept in the context of the high-level metaphysical bullshit underpinning the DCU. He’s a refuge from a dimension composed entirely of the baseless fears of characters in the “real” DCU; he hails from the land of “ha, ha, would that be fucked up or what.” The Dark Multiverse is not so subtly the land of bad story ideas, the shit writers and fans come up with when they’re drunk, high or twelve years old. Everything there is a creature of momentum- every one of them is a conceit you can’t plausibly stretch out more than one issue without it falling apart, represented by the fact that everyone one of their universes disintegrates into nothing at the end of their spotlight issues under their own sheer implausibility. And when TBWL invades the “real” multiverse, his progress eventually implodes in the face of a universe where the writing has to pass some kind of sanity check, and he’s opposed by the Joker because of how aesthetically incoherent Joker considers TBWL’s concept to be. The Joker is an artist, and whoever came up with this is a hack.
And then, of course, they started pushing the character unironically.

The Batman Who Laughs panel redraw
It’s honestly hilarious seeing people complain so much about the batman who laughs and are annoyed that he keeps on sticking around always has some contingency plan. Y’all are literally just complaining about the embodiment of how batman fans see batman. The ones who say he’ll always win because he’ll always have a plan, prep time and all that. That’s just how y’all see batman now personified. If you’re annoyed by it then you’re just feeling what everyone else feels.
