Ok, so i bought The Galaxy, And The Ground Within, and To Be Taught If Fortunate a week ago, and finished both in 2 days each and OH MY STARS, Chambers just keeps making me smile and feel... emotions. TGATGW is so touching, such a good look into how people can come together during adversity, and an amazing experience of seeing all of these species learn about each other, and help eachother! (Which, after the past year and a half... I needed so badly to read about) Pei and Speaker's argument, in particular, stood out as an amazingly done scene with real anger behind both of their voices. Roveg's complicated feelings towards the Quelin are explored with real care and delicacy, and Tupo is a bundle of pure joy whenever xe is in a scene.
TBTIF was amazing, and I still haven't quite parsed out what I enjoy about it yet. Is it the clear bonds and closeness of the main cast, the way that's shown in a healthy way, and how they all have their specialties but still help with the other parts of the mission? Of course. But, there's so much more to it than that! The sheer optimism of the mission, combined with the more somber moments of reflection, depression and harsh situations? There's a reason Becky Chambers is my favourite author, and one of only two to ever make me cry while reading. I think TBTIF shows all of the reasons why in such a small number of words, and I can't wait for A Psalm For The Wild-Built.
