New did the girls’ final battle against Tart and Pie so much better!
Especially since, in the old anime, those four didn’t actually get to defeat any of them in this battle.
A beam from Deep Blue destroyed the chimera after the girls failed the scratch it, and Pie and Tart each stopped themselves. All the Mew’s actual fighting never got to have an effect in the battle at all outside of stalling.
Here, they each got to actually show their stuff and build on what came before and there’s actual weight to their hits. They’re being allowed to feel powerful and clever and effective this time.
Zakuro and Mint get to show off their combination and creativity again, and praise each other in awe.
Lettuce and Pie get to both say their arguments while fighting to the end.
And Bu-ling getting to actively hold Tart down and finally reach him after all this time, until they both just collapse in tears and hug each other, gives her a more direct moment in the spotlight, too. Tart shows his desperation in trying to fight one more fight that he’s clearly not putting his all in, and Bu-ling gets to finally speak to him on his level and get him to just listen to her.
