How to Give Yourself a Helpful Tarot Reading
Here's how I give myself a tarot reading, ideally everyday. It's rare for me to use a Celtic cross format when reading myself. Instead I ask a question, pull a card, and let the thoughts and feelings fly -- even if they're uncomfortable.

What Are You Thinking About Right Now?
First, ask yourself: what is the most pressing situation in my life right now? Is it my job, my love life, a relationship with a friend or family member, my artistic process? What's really on your mind when you aren't thinking about laundry, feeding the cat, or commuting? What do you need a timeout to reflect on?
That's what you'll want to focus on.
For me, right now, it's how to make interacting with people in meaningful ways a larger part of my life, which is a round-about way of saying that I want to grow my tarot business to the point where I can do it as my primary source of income.
By no means is there a "right" or "wrong" way to use tarot cards or read yourself, this is just the way I do it and find it to be the most helpful.
So, I'll frame my question like this, then have a conversation with myself, as if I'm reading cards for someone else.
Q: What can I use to inspire me to make drastic changes when I'm not at my day job?
A: 10 of cups reversed. AKA 9 1/2 of cups.
Side Note: If you are feeling brave and want an extra challenge: don't look at the guidebook. Simply reflect on the card and assign it meaning. It helps to write down your thoughts on each card.
The 9 of Cups Reversed and Emotional Fufillment
It's like, you are so close to emotional fulfillment. Everything looks good on paper, so why aren't you happy? You have people who love you, you feel cared for, yet you want more.
It's taken you awhile to figure out what that missing piece was, or maybe you are just starting to realize what you need to feel happy in your main line of work. Of course, there will always be something to moan and groan about even if you LOVE what you're doing, but deep down, practicality aside, you know this work relationship isn't working.
It's Not You, It's Me
You should never feel guilty for wanting more. But what are you going to do to change your situation? First, you have to admit that you are unhappy and that the situation is not working (for me that situation is my job).
Instead of focusing on what I don't like about my job, I need to think about what's missing. For me, it's being able to connect with people. I don't like sitting at a desk and programming, but I like the security. Not a bad gig, but it's certainly not creative.
So in order to get that last half a cup, I have to let something go. That's my idea of security. I am terrified of deciding to take tarot full time and failing that it's keeping me from following what I love to do.
I can find inspiration in discontent, in that subtle but missing piece that I carry around with me when I go to work and come home. SO, I should be hustling more, using the free hours that I do have to write posts like this, talk about tarot and form a community around what I love and care about.

Sometimes you will find that your first question leads to another question. Follow it. My next question is:
How can I release the fear of what others think of me in order to create a community around this game that I dearly love?
But that's a whole other post.
