2) just thought of a part two to my original question only after I sent it: if the entity is a tar spirit, are there sentences we could repeat in order to firmly tell them to leave? Something like, "I mean you no harm but you are not welcome here." ?

Yes this is very important to ask, but not always easy to do if you're a beginner. If more advanced, one can see in the astral that the spirit is not what they say they are. But as a beginner, we will have to have various ways to check. First of all, ask the supposed demon what they believe it means to be a demon, as well as asking them how best one should honour demons. If it is a true demon, they will answer with some wisdom, but a tar spirit will always try to convince you to do things that are harmful.

Also, despite what Christians have taught, words don't really have any power. In ancient times, certain languages held power if put into an incantation or exorcism (such languages have been Sumerian and Egyptian), but most other languages don't have this ability. So simply telling the tar spirit to leave will just cause them to laugh at you and start acting even worse. So in short, no, there aren't any phrases you can use against a tar spirit or any other being. Instead, what you need to do with a tar spirit is to project into the astral so you can kill it. That's the only way to permanently get rid of them.

I cannot stress how important it is to have wards.

I've seen several posts on here talking about how ppl think it's silly to do this because 'deities will protect their followers'.

Yes, I know the deities are very powerful, but there are other powerful entities that love to mimick them. Theres also entities that are abusive and love to make you sick. Deities cannot protect us at all times, it is up to us to protect ourselves the most. It's a harsh reality and something one must learn. It is not a manipulative tactic on baby witches to learn this. Wards are very easy to set up, and one of the foundation pieces of protective magick.

Please ward. Please protect yourself. There are bad spirits out there that love to deceive and feed upon your energy. Wether its tar spirits, corrupted human souls that refuse to cross over, etc....its important to protect yourself. Take it from someone whose had a tar spirit attached to them/seen them. They are very real. Take it from someone who didnt really think about this as a potential because I too, thought my gods would protect me. Their power can only extend so far.

Types of Hauntings

The following are the types of spirits which haunt places. A haunting means that the spirit is typically bound to one area due to traumatic death and sometimes, they are unaware that they are even dead. All of these are thus human spirits, even the strongly malevolent ones. Contrary to what many people believe, demons do not actually haunt places and typically do not seek to harm people (as they have been the object of many misconceptions); malevolent human spirits are usually the actual “demons”.

Wraiths:

A Wraith is a typical, lingering human spirit. These remain behind after death since they are unable to move on from their traumatic death; sometimes unaware that they had died. Sometimes, they might even be stuck in a time-loop of their own death as it plays over and over; though they lose their memory each time it restarts. Some spirits are in fact aware of their deaths and will remain stuck in this location, often causing them to go insane. On rarer occasions, a spirit will refuse to move on due to having a very strong bond to a loved one, even choosing to remain on Earth together after death. In these cases, the spirits tend to remain peaceful and don’t usually make themselves known to the living. When Wraiths manifest, they tend to appear as transparent apparitions or as orbs; they may sometimes be attracted to people who they believe can free them to the afterlife.  

Poltergeists:

A Poltergeist is what a Wraith becomes if they go insane; this causes them to have more strength to influence the physical plane, allowing them to take out their rage on their surroundings. These spirits are less common than normal Wraiths thankfully, since they have more capacity to harm people. Some Poltergeists have been known to throw things at people or even push them down stairs, sometimes killing them. When a spirit reaches this state, there is not much one can do to free them unless the building they are stuck in is rapidly destroyed (since quick destruction tears the bond their consciousness made to the location at death).  

Khaibits (Shadow People):  

Khaibits are the spirits of humans who were malevolent during their lives and died in ways that caused them to remain bound to Earth. These spirits appear as black humanoids, darker than shadows, and have the ability to latch onto people who come across them. They are always dangerous and are much more likely to try to kill people than Wraiths or Poltergeists. These are human spirits who, during life, had allowed their Khaibit (shadow aspect, their darker self) to become who they are. They are people who had given into their destructive habits, hatred, and sadism; causing their Khaibit to become all that’s left of their spirit, which ends up lingering after having a traumatic death. Khabits are chaotic spirits who present different types of maliciousness; some are moreso destructive while others might be very lustful (these are the spirits known to touch people inappropriately).

Tar Spirits:

While not all tar spirits are human in origin (some of them are from different spirit races of many types), the majority of these are human, so they will be included here. They are also different from the other three categories since they are not true hauntings due to being free to roam wherever they like; both on Earth and in the spirit realm. When a human becomes evil in their life and fully gives into their corruption, allowing it to twist them and destroy their sense of morality, they end up going insane and become a tar spirit when they die. Their difference from the Khaibits is that the Khaibits have not gone insane, have less power, and have some moral limits, though they are still very malevolent. The tar spirits, however, are likely the most evil beings to exist due to their absolute surrender to their impulses. This makes tar spirits (whose majority comes from humans) the true “demons”. They appear as either giant leech-like creatures made of tar and with many mouths full of sharp teeth, or as strange humanoid figures of moving tar.  

These beings are the ones responsible for possessions and utilize possession in order to ruin lives since they hate all of life. They roam through places on Earth, seeking individuals who allowed their minds to become weakened from trauma, as these are the only types of people a spirit can possess. Once they possess this person, it is not obvious that they are possessed (as media portrays), instead, the individual takes on the characteristics of a tar spirit and becomes malevolent. The individual who has been possessed does not even realize that this has happened. They usually give into the hatred that the tar spirit feeds them with, but an exceptionally strong individual can fight against these impulses with will-power. Though if a person does give in (which they usually do), their spirit becomes covered with tar and they cannot turn back.  

In order to recognize if a tar spirit is around you, pay attention to how they make you feel or what they look like. Though usually, they disguise themselves as deities or other beings in order to subtly harm someone’s psychology, or to seduce the person into breeding with them in the astral. In order to to recognize a tar spirit trying to disguise as something different, pay attention to the following tactics they use:

A supposed deity, demon, angel, etc. tries to convince you to marry or have sex with them when you hardly even know them. Tar spirits routinely manipulate unsuspecting humans into reproducing for them, or even forcing themselves upon others.

They tell you that you are very special and not like other people (they may say you’re a god, you have a special destiny above others, you are their own prophet, etc.)

They don’t let you speak/work with other spirits 

They may try to convince you to leave your close friends or lie about friends trying to betray you

They try to convince you that your negative habits/emotions should be embraced

They are toxic and manipulative towards you in general

Tar Spirits

These are a race of spirits that originate mainly from humans (sometimes other spirit races as well). They are highly malevolent (arguably the most evil race of spirits) and hate all of life, doing whatever they can to destroy it. The following describe what these spirits are like, how to recognize them, and how to defend from them.

Origin: When a human gives into their malevolent impulses during life such as wrath, sadism, selfishness, etc, their spirit gradually becomes more and more corrupted. If they begin to commit unspeakable acts against others and themselves, completely surrendering to their toxic impulses, they have taken the steps towards becoming a tar spirit at death. This intense devotion to malevolence eventually causes the person to go insane and lose all sense of morality; they are even abandoned by their higher selves. When this person dies, they become a tar spirit- a horrendous being made out of tar and pure hatred. They appear as leech-like creatures of tar with many mouths full of sharp teeth, or as strange humanoid beings of moving tar. The leader of these spirits is the serpent-god of evil, Apep. He does not live among them but will often command them to inflict torments on others. These creatures can also come into being from being spawned by Apep himself, dripping from his body due to his extreme corruption.

Mindset and Traits: The tar spirits have corrupted themselves so thoroughly that they believe morality to be an illusion; the act of descent is their idea of ascent. They relish in absolute chaos and suffering, both inflicted upon others and their own selves. They feel nothing but hatred and a desire for pain, taking great pleasure in this twisted way of existing. The tar spirits have lost all sense of love, reasoning, beauty, and compassion; the only thing they now enjoy is pain. The realm in which they live is a place full of flowing tar; many waterfalls of it fill the area and there is an overwhelming feeling of hatred here. It not only feels disgusting to be in, but is also extremely dangerous. The tar spirits all hate one another and when not harming humans, they harm each other by inflicting various tortures and rapes on their own kind. They all both hate and relish in their suffering since it causes them to become further corrupted.  

Since the tar spirits hate all of life, morality, and beauty, they focus only on death and dissolution. Their ultimate goal in existence is to destroy all of life, including their own lives. For this reason, if they come across a person capable of astral projection, they may eagerly encourage the person to fight them. They have appeared rather excited to die, expressing that they are only truly satisfied by the idea of absolute non-existence.  

What these spirits do: The main thing the tar spirits are notorious for is possession. While many have mistakenly attributed this to demons due to them being falsely labelled as evil, these corrupted human spirits are the actual culprits. In order to further corrupt humanity, tar spirits often target individuals who have allowed their minds to weaken from traumatic experiences. Due to theses peoples’ lack of hope and will-power, they are able to be possessed. However, possession is not obvious as how it is typically portrayed; it tends to be much more subtle. In fact, it is so subtle, that the person who is possessed doesn’t even realize that they are possessed. Once a tar spirit locks onto a weakened individual and goes inside their body, they begin to merge with the person’s spirit; which causes the higher self (the Ba, or soul) to abandon the body. This leaves only the Ka (spirit, or essence) behind, yet the person will not notice the difference.  

Once settled, the tar spirit will then begin to attempt at corrupting the person by influencing their mind to do malicious things such as abuse their children/spouse, commit murders, rape, become a cannibal, etc. Sometimes, the tar spirit may have their human only do specific things and not go overboard since they have a set goal; other times, they may try to do as much evil as possible. Though this does not mean that every abuser or serial killer is possessed, but many of them are. If the person surrenders to these impulses fed by the tar spirit (which they usually do), the individual will become thoroughly corrupted and there will be no turning back. Yet if the individual is exceptionally strong and can use their will-power to fight against these urges, they will not be corrupted; though this very rarely happens. Sometimes, the tar spirit can be banished in time to save the person before they become corrupted or before their higher self leaves, but if the tar spirit remains for too long, the person will remain evil even if the tar spirit is banished.  

Once the possessed individual no longer serves any use to the tar spirit, it will jump out of the body and go into the next weakened victim. Some things they often do are possess parents who they inspire to abuse their children, allowing the tar spirit to then possess the weakened child and make them an abuser as well. Many other times, they make someone a serial killer only to abandon them afterwards, causing the person to realize the totality of their crimes and commit suicide. Tar spirits also often attack other entities as well, trying to either harm them or devour their children. Another common thing tar spirits do is pretend to be a deity, demon, or some either type of spirit in order to seduce an unsuspecting human who contacts spirits. If the human falls for their tactics and is seduced, the tar spirit will have sex with their astral body in order to breed with them. They don’t actually care to have children, but do this in order to have greater numbers of their kind, allowing them to corrupt as many people as possible. 

Ways to recognize a tar spirit: The obvious way would be to use your astral sight to see them, or if you happen to smell their tar (which has a very foul odor). However, since these spirits are extremely deceptive, they often disguise themselves as different types of beings (such as deities) in order to earn trust. To recognize when you are dealing with a tar spirit in disguise, stay aware of these common tactics they utilize:
