To which I usually reply by pointing out that IDW Sonic = Archie Sonic because there are no differences between those comics whatsoever.

But I think it really speaks to what I'm always talking about. That to these comic fans, the concept of someone actually liking the video games is so incomprehensible to them that they literally cannot see it. Their brain just refuses to acknowledge it. It's like the fucking Patriots being translated into the La Li Lu Le Lo, the information just auto deletes from their fucking brain.

Every single one of my complaints about the IDW comics is on the basis of how it differs from THE VIDEO GAMES. Because I love the Sonic video games. I hate the Sonic comics (ALL of the Sonic comics) BECAUSE they are different from the video games. I mark every deviation from the video games as a critical shortcoming with every single Sonic adaptation. The reason these comics (and cartoons and movies) are bad is because they're not like the video games.

But they literally do not hear that. Because someone liking the Sonic video games and wanting an adaptation of the video games to be faithful and authentic to the video games is inconceivable to them. So their brain just short circuits and they default to "well you must not like this new Sonic comic because you prefer the old Sonic comic instead."

Because that's what Sonic is to them. It's these comics. They don't see the video games as anything except something to complain about and hate on. The video games are the pebble in their shoe they can't shake out, it's not the FOUNDATIONAL SOURCE MATERIAL OF THE FRANCHISE. They hate the video games. And they naturally assume that everyone else does too, because it's just so normalized for them.

That's why they assume I'm hatting on the IDW comics BECAUSE I'm a fan of the Archie comics. Even though I constantly explain at length that I'm hating on the IDW and Archie and Fleetway et all comics BECAUSE I'm a fan of the VIDEO GAMES. To them it's a binary. If you like Sonic that means you either are talking about liking the IDW comic, or the Archie comic. But never the video games.
