sacrifice
Chainsaw Man | Ch. 176 Vol. 20
Yoru picked up her two bad ass kids from daycare and started world War 3
The most recent chapter addressed something I have been wondering for a long while, and that is Yoru and her own sense of guilt. When you have a character who can weaponize their guilt, but they are someone who is generally presented in being remorseless in the awful things you do, it's only a matter of time before you are presented with them facing their own source of guilt. For a while now, I had assumed that guilt would stem from Asa, that her had affected Yoru enough that Yoru had begun to feel attachment to the things Asa cared about, but now we are seeing her have a guilt that is independent of Asa, and that guilt is more powerful than anything she could produce on her own.
To be honest, I had wanted Yoru to beat Pochita in this fight, because I feel like Yoru winning would have more of a potential story to it, such as what happens with Denji, since Pochita winning would just be more escalation that might be harder to pull back from, but the last chapter had me think things over. Guilt makes the weapons strong, but it also makes them fragile, a sword Asa made from a uniform her mother bought her shattered after it whiffed, so I can only imagine how fragile those new arms will be, they can't have more than a few shots to them before they shatter.
If Yoru loses this fight, or if Pochita tanks her hits for long enough, and those weapons break, how will she react? She killed her own children, a sacrifice she was not willing to make until she was merely a moment from dying, all for the chance of defeating the Hero of Hell, but what would happen to her if it resulted in nothing? She played her ultimate, final trump card at such a massive, personal cost, and Pochita was still able to stand up.
I really want to see how this guilt persists inside of her, and how it shapes her character going forward.
