Currently Watching: lol we are watching the One Piece live-action with our weekend group, which is sure an experience
Currently Reading: The Sword Interval webcomic (I didn't realize it's complete! I'm loving it, excellent monster designs. very recommend), Libra Shrugged: How Facebook Tried to Take Over the Money by David Gerard (I read Attack of the 50-Foot Blockchain ages ago and enjoyed it, but I didn't catch up on this one. I'm liking it so far!) and Endgame by Dee Davis (romantic suspense, first in a trilogy, I'm rereading them now because I just found out there's an additional novella for after)
Current Obsession: my garden! I did not end up with my beloved marigolds but I did get a variety of other mounding annuals, and I got my eggplants! two Asian-style long and four Mediterranean-style fat eggplant plants, which should give a harvest bountiful enough to keep even my household satisfied! I've also got some begonias from the neighbors <3 they're too shade-loving for my community plot but I've got them tucked under my porch oak and they should be happy there
Currently Working On: trying to reorganize the linen closet. more of an undertaking than expected but I will persevere
Last Google web Search: konjac. I was trying to check for the various names/anglicizations to make sure the ingredient I was looking at ("yam paste packet") was the same one I was thinking of, but instead I got a page of health and diet ads :/ apparently konjac jelly is a miracle supplement or whatever. it is also both juruo and konnyaku and was what I was holding, so eventual success! I think most of my confusion was because the konnyaku in my mind is much darker, but that's because it's the version with seaweed in

11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?
Honestly, almost every single book Iāve read this year has been out for at least a decade. Iām just not in the habit of reading new books or trying to keep up with new releases.Ā
I think the oldest book I read this year was The October Country. Possibly.Ā Ā
23. Whatās the fastest time it took you to read a book?
haĀ hahaha HAHAHAHAIām notorious for taking forever to finish books (I oftentimes donāt even finish books). But in the last few months of this year Iāve been a pretty fast reader. The fastest for this year is kind of a three-way tie between all the Mary Oliver books Iāve read (Dog Songs, Felicity, and American Primitive). Itās not exactly a huge feat, since theyāre all right around 100 pages and for 2 of them the poems are only on one side of each page. So like, weāre talking 200 pages total within 2-ish weeks. lol But fuck it. It counts. 3 books in 2 weeks. lmaoĀ
Donāt have much to say about this one beyond 1) I discovered it this year on shuffle and went āoh???ā and 2) it is a BOP
30 - A New BrainĀ - I Fight Dragons
We love a weird Wizard of Oz metaphor!! Not gonna lie thereās also a part of me as a like, neurodivergent aro person that really vibes with this song. Itās got one of those choruses thatās good for belting when youāre having a day⢠with human emotions -- or rather, feeling like youāve got a lack thereof. Sometimes you just gotta shoutĀ āI want a new brain, I want a new heart / I'm sick of feeling, failing, and falling apartā and then youāll calm down.

Scribe, certain recent tags have *me* worried! I'm not even involved in your DnD game!
Itās fine! Weāre all fine here! We just have the most fragile elf on the planet!
Under a cut because whoo boy I sure can ramble about dungeons and dragons!
So the party needed to defeat this enormous rampaging demon with a magical sword in order to save the city, as you do. But the sword had been tampered with, and in order to restore it they needed to remove a gem from a statue. This wouldnāt have been too difficult, except that the statue was in the same square as the demon.
So someone needed to distract it.
Enter Erwyn, our wonderful, stubborn, ridiculously fragile ranger, who has an ongoing habit of antagonizing enemies and decided okay, this time he was going to weaponize it. Enter also Voski (currently going by Kasia; she has a lot of personas), our long-suffering bard, who has an ongoing habit of doing her goddamn best to make sure Erwyn doesnāt get himself killed every time he pisses someone off.
At the end of last session, they were both on the roof of the temple they had raised from beneath the city (long story), which was protecting them from the life-draining effect of the demonās attacks, and the rest of the party had managed to restore the sword! But they were over 300 feet away.Ā
At the beginning of combat this session, the demon grabbed Erwyn and Voski and threw them off the roof. Theyād already both taken damage, and now they were vulnerable to the hit point-draining effect of the demonās trunks. It was just the two of them, pinned down and unable to run without provoking more attacks, trying to hold on long enough for our paladin to arrive with the sword. And they almost made it. They poured as much healing into each other as they could, but Erwynās hit points were just too low and he canāt make a Constitution save to (literally) save his life, so before the rest of the party could arrive the attacks reduced his maximum hit points to below zero and he died, for the third time since the campaign started.
Heād been wearing a Ring of Mind Shielding, which has the property of trapping a soul if you die while wearing it, and which heād spent several days in the *first* time he died. You canāt do much inside it, but you can still cast spells, and so from within the ring he was able to heal Voski, who had been knocked unconscious. While they were both down the demon had decided they werenāt fun to play with anymore and moved to engage with our paladin.
So Voski woke up, saw what had happened, and immediately started making her way towards the temple in search of a cleric, carrying Erwynās body with her. She knew that there was a spell that could restore someone to life if the cleric got to them within a minute. What she didnāt know was that, since Erwyn had been killed by a life draining effect, that spell wouldnāt work.
And hereās where things get even more complicated, because the last time Erwyn died heād been brought back by a demon, and it fused a fragment of the Abyss to his soul. As Voski made her way to the temple, the rest of the party defeated the demon champion and triggered a divine effect that would Banish all the other demons from the city. And because Erwynās soul had just enough demonic energy caught up in it, I made him roll a save to resist the banishment.
He failed.
So he was pulled out of the Ring and began falling through the Abyss, only to be rescued (ish?) by a handmaiden of Lolth that Voski had some previous dealings with, who pulled him into the Demonweb Pits and was honestly very nice to him, even if he was dissociating too hard to really appreciate it.
And THEN Voski made it into the temple and the tiny lizardfolk cleric NPC whoās the main point of contact for the Goddess there had her bring Erwynās body to the altar and began to pray for a miracle. This goddess owes our party a LOT, and had manifested almost all her power through the temple and the city.
So poor Erwynās soul got yoinked out of the Abyss into anotherĀ Plane where the Goddess met him and thanked him, and then she returned him to life, and no one but Voski even knows any of this happened and even she doesnāt know about the Abyssal part of it, and Erwyn is alive now!! And doesnāt have any terrible side effects, unlike the last two times!! But thereās still. A lot to unpack here.
17:Ā Name/author of the last book I read cover to cover. Do I recommend it?Ā The last book I read completely front-to-back (which is different from just āthe last book I readā, because I havenāt gotten a new book since A Killing Frost on the 1st and that means in the last three weeks Iāve been returning to old favorites, which I often skip around on) was Rescues and the Rhyssa by TS Porter, which I would absolutely whole-heartedly recommend (my approval of it all the more apparent because I have read it dozens of times already and still did reread it in its entirety) but it is tragically unavailable for new purchases.Ā I think Amazon has maybe one used copy for like forty bucks.Ā Itās an incredible read (lesbians in space! a good and proper romance between a Lawful Good and a Chaotic Good--tricky and impressive!Ā beyond amazing world(space)building and the neatest aliens ever!Ā an incredible rescue mission plotline with a fabulous action sequence to cap it!) and I am so devastated that I cannot spread this book around, yāall, it is so good.Ā Before that I was rereading the Redwall series by Brian Jacques and the Elemental Mages series by Mercedes Lackey--I recommend them both.Ā My favorite of the Redwall books is probably Marlfox (this was such a hard decision to make.Ā I always read the Long Patrol-Marlfox-Taggerung trifecta as a single chunk, and picking a favorite was actively painful) and my favorite of the Elemental Mages is From a High Tower (German Air Master Rapunzel joins a Wild West show as their lady sharpshooter, what an incredible convergence of tropes).Ā
57:Ā Do I like roller coasters?Ā The little ghost roommate just asked me this one so Iāll spare the vitriol this time round but uh, no.Ā I do not.Ā
124:Ā What is my Myers-Briggs personality type? ISFJ or the Protector.Ā Sometimes when Iām feeling outgoing my answers can land me in ESFJ/Provider territory but I think thatās an overstatement--I have a great need to be around my people, but they have to be my people, which I think is still an introvertive trait.Ā
