A hopeful part of me thought I'd stop questioning my sexuality once I came out. But honestly, sometimes I still find myself wondering if I'm not just straight after all.

those little sad/deep moments in sitcoms are 1923085092% more emotional than in dramas imo.
There's just something about the contrast. Dramas are filled with serious and sad moments, whereas comedy is supposed to be funny; even if it does touch on serious topics, it usually only does so in a way that'll make you laugh.
And then sometimes, that laugh is surpassed for the sake of a special scene or plot line and that just gets me every time. Because I didn't expect it, because the tone of serious scenes stands out so much from the rest of sitcom content. Because that unexpected earnestness tells you that something important is happening, and it's still okay to laugh, but there's suddenly a lot more depth to it than a well thought-out joke.
Honestly I now remember why I prefer British and costume dramas over Dutch costume dramas. And I'm going on a rant about it because why not?
I'm not a native English speaker, and so I'm not aware of any mistakes in old-fashioned and formal language. Whereas in Dutch, I'm aware of every little thing they say wrong – and let me tell you, there's a lot being said wrong. This is less in older Dutch costume dramas (which I greatly prefer) because our (tv) language was more similar to what was normal in, say, the 1910s.
I have a better understanding of Dutch accents. I hear any British accent somewhat suited to a character’s region and class and immediately assume it's probably period appropriate. A big advantage to this is that the people who are supposed to speak RP in British series, actually do so. This isn't the case with the Dutch equivalent in Dutch costume dramas, and it drives me up the wall.
I know far more about Dutch history, and can therefore see inaccuracies much more easily. It always makes me wonder how an entire team of people fails to notice the things I do.
I'm more used to Dutch etiquette, which isn't all that different from British, but enough to make me more observant of inaccuracies. This, and the fact that most Dutch people barely know any etiquette nowadays and fail to use it in a costume drama, lmao.
The Dutch just make less costume dramas in general, and I suppose they’re less experienced because of it.
In conclusion: ignorance is bliss.
