“I wish you were home, gege.”
The childish voice carried an undertone of longing and disappointment as it echoed through the empty music room, causing the heir to graze his teeth down his bottom lip in frustration, not even the early hours in the morning or the fact he has yet to fall sleep could refrain his heart from clenching tightly as a beat was skipped. His fist unconsciously following the same mechanical reaction as irritation thickened the blood in his veins, Draconis was about to take the first flight back to Canada if the distance between them made his little sister shad a single tear yet again.
“I promise I will be back soon, little love.” His baritone was apologetic in the English words and the chinese endearing term, free hand sustaining the cello in position against his thigh as he left a heavy sigh scape. “It’s past bedtime hour for you, however, so close your eyes so gege can play you another song.” Long fingers came to rest against the arm of the instrument, the bow already crossing the strings to form a sweet melody, gentle enough to tell a story of its own in hopes to nurse a young princess to sleep. Draconis would never utter a word of complain towards his young sister, but that was the fifth song he was playing that night and although he was indeed tired, he couldn’t exactly blame her for crave his attention.
Especially considering that he had not been to Canada in at least two months, a shame for the acting head designer and creative director of the Wei Enterprises indeed, but the weight of promoting the imperium across the Asian countries and reinforce their presence in its market had him unreachable during his entire time. And punishment or not, Draconis would leave the place without thinking twice if it meant to keep the light of his life happy in any possible way.
“Thank you for doing this every night, Chen, she is already soundly asleep. And about your promise to Mei-…”
He could not bite back his words before cutting her argument short with his sharp remarks. “Do not worry about it, Hana; I have a meeting with the board members soon, anyhow. Send Father my greetings, and keep him in check, will you please?” He chuckled in a mock of amusement before pressing the red figure on the screen of his phone, his head tilting hurriedly towards the newcomer in the room. “Did anyone ever told you that the point of eavesdropping is not getting caught, beautiful?”
