Power Girl #4 - "Electric Dreams" (2023)

Not if I kill her first.

-Emilie looked at the withered flowers. She touched her cheek.

-”Everything went perfectly? Why did I say that?”

-Warmth, life, breathing. She was alive, but she was not the emilie she once was.

-Her memory was hazy. Like she had been walking in a fog, the words were muffled.

-She closed her eyes, focusing on what happened. How she was in that coffin, the peacock woman... why did it look so familiar?

-”Keep her alive ...” She said. “protect .... Agreste family at all cost.”

-The peacock woman had dropped her transformation and renounced her power. It was Nathalie.

-”Nathalie?”

- It was blank, then Gabriel arrived and she felt more like how she was... before she passed away.

-She was alive again. She knew it was Nathalie who did it. She needed something? An explanation! How was she alive.

-Her mind flashes! A thought telling her to look under the bed.

-She does, there was a letter, addressed to her.

-She opened it.

-”If you are reading this, then it worked perfectly. You’re alive Emilie. Gabriel had spent over a year trying and failing to attain the ladybug and Cat miraculous as a means to revive you. In efforts to aid him, I used the peacock miraculous, despite the risks...”

-Emilie was stunned, Nathalie used the miraculous that resulted in her own... She kept reading

-”Gabriel’s attempts haven’t been entirely in vain, he did find a way to fix the miraculous, now with no drawback to use it. But the damage had been done. I was still far too damaged to keep this up. Whether it was in a few weeks or a few years... my time was almost up. So, I used all of my focus and energy to create one last sentimonster. A sentimonster that would bring you to life. In exchange for life force energy. I call it Symbio, as it and you are co-dependent on eachother for survival. I decided to use my own life force to help you live. You also gained my memories as a result. Your own memories are still in tact, but this way, a part of me will always be with him. I dont know how long my essence will keep you going, but anything living can be drained. Just be careful. Dont let Gabriel or Adrien know the truth about this. They must not know. But lastly, watch over them emilie. Please.”

-Emilie felt her guts turn to cement. She was pretty much a monster. She had killed Nathalie. She has all of the memories now. She saw the strife Nathalie went through to do all of this. She wouldnt let it all be in vain.

-Emilie destroyed the letter. She understood that there was no point dwelling on this. While she felt disgusted with herself, she was alive, she was here, and she would protect her family no matter what.

She’s a bitch but she’s loving. She doesn’t feel the need to prove herself, especially not to a man. She has fun and has a charming personality but not at all in the way it was in power girl 2023. She is a very capable woman.

The fact she relied on a man more in 2023 than in any of her older appearances is crazy to me.

As far as th name change goes I don’t like the name Paige for her, I like it AS a name but it feels like a pointless change.

Power Girl 2023 really dumbed her down in order to make her a “relatable girl failure” and while I’m not against that AS an idea for a character, I think female characters should be allowed to be flawed and not crucified for such a thing, it just isn’t the kind of flaw that Karen has. She’s an intelligent and competent woman who of course makes mistakes, obviously but no where near the level she did in 2023.

It felt like in 2023 any time there was a moment that required any thinking it was for Lilith or Axel. Anytime there was personality it was for Crush. I feel like streaky had more personality than Karen in Power girl 2023 (side note: stinky come home).

I liked some of the plot point in that arc, Symbio and Abbi as characters really really interested me and they could be good villains for Karen but I don’t feel the way they were utilised was very good at all. The fact Ejecta was a hero was barely used and the big final battle was just therapy speak nonsense which isn’t who Karen is.
