sylvhem replied to your post: On the positive end of the MtG things, finally can...
You have all of them?! Wow. Thatās my dream.
If you mean the kits, each set of 5 was still under a 100 last I saw, and I was able to pick up all the sleeves just this week for around the same...
But of course, if you got none of that, you are talking about a 300+ drop, soooooooooo
I donāt feel bad saying this given the current mess because wizards already got their money. everyone selling this stuff are shops and lgsā. So yeah.
(my credit card is now in a box far away from me for the next few months by the by. good thing Iāve gotten most of my christmas shopping done already)
""Can red force all players discard their hands and draw new ones?" Yes, although it is a subject of much R&D debate." In which side of this debate are you on?
I find Wheel of Fortune a little too card advantage-y for red but there's not a great other place to put it. Blue doesn't particularly need it.
Are you OK? Are you alone or are you with someone who can look after you? Sorry to ask, but I'm worried :(.
yeah my family is here, to be completely honest this morning i was really worried id passout from dehydration but im doing a lil better now, hanks for askin thoĀ

Favorite planeswalker: Chandra Nalaar. I am actually wearing a Chandra Nalaar t-shirt at this very moment.

I don't know what happened to you during your last prerelease, but I hope this one will be better. Have a nice prerelease!
Oh, Iām just being dramatic and a bit of a brat! It was a lot of fun, I was just the only person at the shop who didnāt get a Mythic Rare and I had the horrible issue of drawing pretty much equal parts of each color, making deck building a little tough.
Thank you, though! :D
Hi! I was wondering, what is you favorite ancient Egypt-themed Magic card?
Oh man. If I had to pick one I like most overallĀ itāsĀ actually Titus Lunterās Island. He did such a good job with the architecture and the statues and the inscription, I love it. Itās very Egypt, but still Magic.Ā
Another favourite is Electrify, because its flavour text (āSome hid from the storm. I embraced it and learned its name.ā) is very evocative of Egyptian ideas of the importance of names and words. Lay Bare the Heart as well for basically the same reason, but then when it comes to the concept of the heart as the seat of all thought.
The other cards I like are equal partsĀ āyay! cool!ā andĀ āthat is NOT Egyptianā lmao.Ā
Hello! Someone on Reddit linked to an Amonkhet Invocation's Wrath of God apparently translated in ancient Egyptian. I found that super cool, but do you think you can tell us if this translation is correct? /r/magicTCG/comments/62q9sq/akhoc_wrath_of_god_invocation_in_ancient_middle/
For some reason I thought Iād posted this but itās been stuck in my drafts instead. Donāt ask me how but I guess my brain just hasnāt been functioning properly since forever.
Anyway, hereās a line by line transliteration/translation of the Wrath of God card, with commentary.
Dnd nTrWrath (of) God
Both accurate and inaccurate: Middle Egyptian has a direct genitive construction wherein two nouns (possessor and possessed) can be written side by side. However, the flagpole hieroglyph, nTr, should have been written at the start of the line because of honorific transposition. It doesnāt make a difference for the transliteration, since that would still be Dnd nTr, but it just looks weird. It also doesnāt need the seated god-determinative after it.Ā
ra.wy sn (assuming similar RL orientation as Dnd nTr)Two two suns
The mana cost only works if you take the ideogram ra (sun) as an ideogram for white mana, obviously. This is all very literal.Ā
HkAMagic, incantation
Could work asĀ āsorceryā, on a semantic level. HkA as a term isĀ not one-on-one translatable with the fantasy kind of magic. Also, the orientation of these signs has suddenly flipped from RL to LR. I can see why these hieroglyphs are oriented LR, but I fail to see why Dnd nTr and ra.wy sn are oriented RL.Ā
iw HDi Ha.w nb m priDestroy every body in (the) battlefield
Jesus, these hieroglyphs are a mess. The orientation changed again,Ā to RL. But the palm rib (the sign to the right of the arm-with-shield-and-club) is facing the wrong way. The word/sign groupings are also weird. m (the owl) and pri (the battlefield group) should not be mashed together like this. I also havenāt seen pri spelled like that before, but that could be me.Ā
As far as the grammar goes, Iām ridiculously out of practice with translating/parsing so while Iām not 100% certain this is correct I canāt pinpoint exactly why. Iām honestly no good when it comes to translating toĀ hieroglyphs, since that was never required of us in uni.
n rDi.n=s ts anx tw nhiwithout her(?) giving (?) life this escape
Another orientation change - LR again now. While hieroglyphs could change orientation within a text depending on the situation, thereās no reason for the constant change on this card. Itās just⦠wrong.Ā The word groupings are once again off. The r sign (mouth) should not be below the two arms (n), for example.Ā
Grammatically the first part seems okay because I want to read a negation of the circumstantial sDm.n=f (n rDi.n=s). The rest I canāt make any sense of. The suffix =s is odd. Iād prefer to read =sn (they/them/their), but =sn isnāt at all written like this. Another option could be n rDi n=s,Ā āwithout/not giving to herā.
I canāt find a word that corresponds to ts that would make sense in this context (the only ts isĀ ābreadā). Iām also not sure what to make of ālife this escapeā. I guess itās an attempt to communicate the meaning ofĀ āregenerateā, since Middle Egyptian isnāt known to have that word.
