Another happy discovery...blooming crocosmia in my garden. They traveled quite by accident with the irises from my old garden to this one. Tiny baby quail...not very old & likely on one of their first outings. They were in the herb bed with their mama when I saw them. I approached slowly but the mama herded them together the best she could & knowing she couldn't do anything to get them all away & protect them, flew to the top of the fence. The papa quail was also atop the fence keeping watch on the other side. The babies scurried into one corner, then fled to the opposite corner; confused, they hurried back to the other corner. Mama quail had flown to the base of the fence on the other side & in her quail language told them to hop onto the grass, then follow the narrow area between the raised bed & the fence & come to her through the narrow opening beneath the fence.
