I always used to wonder why on Maine State license plates it used to say "vacationland" and I was like "why would anyone come here??" But then I just saw an ad about building a retirement fund and it was like "open the door to your dreams" and the dream-destination was like... my back yard??? Girl I already live there. I've lived there for over twenty years. I was born here. I'm gonna die here. I don't need a million dollars, thanks.

A busy Maine lobster wharf. Lots of cars and trucks pulling up and pulling out all day long. This was hard, I scraped it down several times to change which vehicles were included. Friendly people, everybody giving me a wave.

"Wow, You live in Maine? It must be expensive eating lobster all the time" idk how to explain it to you that it's not that expensive when you are in walking distance of the lobsters house and you can just... get it directly from the fisherman, fresh from the boat.

"Ok, but surely muscles are expensive-" they live in the sand. You find them with a shovel. And they TELL YOU WHERE THEY ARE BECAUSE THEY LITERALLY BREATHE and the air bubbles come up through the wet sand and you stick your hand in to grab it and you just saved yourself fifty dollars.
"What about clams-" they live in the same place as the muscles. I can fill a blueberry basket with them in 20 minutes if I wanted to.
"Crab?" In the same place as the lobster.
"Trout?" In the pond behind my house. Don't even need to leave my property.
"So living in Maine is... cheap?" Oh god no. The property taxes are horrendous.
