I still can't believe Star Vs is ending. This feels so surreal.
I've been here since the very beginning of it all. I still remember the first promos shown on TV, and what exactly about then made me interested in the first place. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I first watched Storm the Castle. Even after Blood Moon Ball and Mewnipendence Day, I didn't expect the show to get THAT deep; it blew my expectations out of the water and just kept doing so over and over. I also remember the GRUELING 10 MONTH HIATUS between seasons 1 and 2, going so long without a mention or a date that some of us really thought it'd been cancelled. I still remember ny exact reactions to the "Star's crush on Marco" reveal and Toffee coming back and the intensity of Starcrushed and Battle For Mewni.
I think there's a lot here that explains why I stuck with this show and why I love it even with all its gifts and flaws. I was sad when Gravity Falls ended, but it just wasn't the same because I hadn't been there since the beginning. But this? This is one of the few, if not only, fandoms I've been with since the beginning of. The last few I can remember are Avatar: the Last Airbender and Star Wars: the Clone Wars, except I wasn't involved in social media and not heavily fanbase-oriented back then.
I think that's why, even through all it's questionable decisions and strange choices of characterization, I never stopped loving this show and its characters. It's no Avatar, or Gravity Falls, or Steven Universe, but it never had to be. And I don't think the fandom is gonna die out after it ends. At the very least, it'll always have a special place in my heart. No matter how it ends.
I saw your "already implied" on Marco visiting. Was it because of the DC promo showing Star and Marco on the Diazes couch? Or was it something different than that?
I mean, it was implied at the end of Marco Jr. that he will visit more often.

One of the many things that ruined my fun in the show is how S3 handled it love-triangle (no surprises!). S2's had Marco gain confidence and teased us with what a wonderful person Jackie might turns out to be, and Star went through a massive development regarding losing her book and getting serious with her magic. When S3 rolled in, Jackie had her great -exiting- act and was never featured again, Star got her reward, a new and improved Tom for a boyfriend who keeps dealing with his flaws, (1/4)
gets great expectations from the fandom, and Marco to do.. whatever heās for. Seriously, they had Marco becomes a punching bag, a douchbag, fall big time.. and never ever got up. His friendship with Star is almost nonexistent, his only importance that he loves Star and never leaves her side even if it hurts him, become situational (when Star had her portaling trouble and the love dilemma). When he actually does something right, his ways always have a shade thrown at them by the fandom: (2/4)
Sophmore Slump: Jackieās breaking up with him is all his fault! He shouldnāt move to Mewni even if his character development there! Trial By Squire: Get called out by Higgs for wanting to do squire stuff for Star (and she in the right for that!) Night Life: āBetraysā Hekapoo to keep Star safe (and fans take Hekapooās side?!). Deep Dive: Uses a spying spell to save Star (yes, some did say he invaded her privacy!). Stump Day: Throws a surprise birthday party and getting upset that everyone (¾)
who helped making it are toasting him because Star doesnāt want it (friends right?). Marco Jr.: Giving a portrait of yourself to your baby brother is āIt is all about meā I think. Booth Buddies: Yes, but he was made to believe that taking a photo showing the truth would get them out. Honestly, itāll be real chore to make him likable again to anyone without a deus ex machina or making him go āyou know, I was a real jerk back then, Iāll never do that ever againā Star & Tom: āUh, Okayā. (4/4)Ā
I feel very much the same way. Sadly, though, I donāt think season 4 will solve this issue. I want the show to go back to how it progressed through season 2. I want to see Star push Marco to make friends, and I want to see Marco show Star how to sit back and relax. I want their relationship to be as two-sided as it was back then. Because youāre right, Marco HAS regressed as a character in season 3. And his friendships have all suffered this season because of that. (Except Tom, for whatever reason, whose friendship with Marco has actually GROWN because of his selfish actions.)
Starās character didnāt exactly regress in season 3, it just went in a different direction than I wanted or expected it to. Iāve said it before and Iāll say it again, but Iām not into politics. Iād much rather watch the fun dimension-hopping comedy that we got in seasons 1 and 2, than the politically charged landscape from season 3. I still think Star and Marco should have just gone back to earth together after the Battle For Mewni. It would have been a much more interesting season that way.
While writing this response, I concluded that as of season 3, this show no longer has two protagonists. The only one left is Star. I want to return to a time when Marco was also included.
Season 3 really messed up my trust in Mewman authorities, ok? After finding out the whole "Eclipsa is evil" spiel was just propaganda by the Magic High Commission, I can't trust the MHC or most queens of Mewni when they say ANYONE is evil...
Even Seth. The only authority figures whose word I can trust now are Globgor and Eclipsa, and neither of them actually mention Seth by name. They just mention being concerned about Septarians in general. But the only accounts we get of him are from three rather untrustworthy sources: the Magic High Supremacists, Crescenta the Psychopath, and Comet the Painfully Ignorant.
The Book of Spells keeps building up Seth to be the next villain, but how can I believe that after being led on to think Eclipsa would be the villain of Season 3? I just can't fall for it again. At this point the only logical villains that would actually MAKE SENSE are the Magic High Commission: Star gave the kingdom to Eclipsa, the MHC hates Eclipsa, and they're not gonna stand for it. Obviously they're going to be at odds with our main characters because their ideals are not only too different, but they clash with each other. There's no universe where both the MHC and the main cast can get what they want without putting the other party down.
Instead of a Marco Jr. episode (if Star and Marco don't visit Earth in Season 4 since it seems irrelevant compared to the big plots on Mewni), I think the writers will likely choose either A.) Star and Marco babysit Meteora while Eclipsa unfreezes/protects Globgot, B.) Pony Head babysits baby Pranciss but Star watches her cuz PH is lazy/narcisstic, or C.) Star and Marco babysit Ruberiot x Foolduke's random baby instead (if there was a time skip).
You know, I'm just not even sure they'll do another babysitting episode. But if they do, I think for sure it will be one of the first two.
If there is a time skip, I'm thinking it will be more like a one-off "where are they now" kind of thing. It will be 10-20 years into the future, Eclipsa or Meteora will still be ruling Mewni, Star and/or Marco will be a royal advisor, Marco will be happily married to whichever girl he chose all those years ago, Moon might be gone, and the monsters will be back. I'm not really sure.
One thing of which I AM sure, though, is that they'll put in at least one more token earth episode. But like I said, I doubt the plot will be about babysitting.
If I were taking over the rest of the show from here, I might do something where:
- After Moon is found, the Butterflys need a place to live. So Marco offers up his home.
- Maybe the baby comes partway through the season, after the Butterflys have already moved in with the Diazes. This way Marco is there when his baby brother enters the world.
- The only reason the Diazes decided to have another kid is because they lost their first one, so maybe they figure that now that Marco Sr. is back, they realize that they don't want the baby anymore, and... something crazy happens with that.
- Maybe Marco realizes the above fact and decides that HE doesn't like Marco Jr.
- Or maybe, the kid turns out to be exactly like Star, in that he is the polar opposite of his big brother. His parents would be either disappointed or outright shocked at this.
But, knowing how this show works, I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't show up at all for the rest of the series. I think the Marco Jr. episode wasn't at all significant, it was just the token "earth episode" for season 3.
