This Takoyaki pup's name is Geronimo. His big aspiration is to become an experienced chef and one day create his own restaurant. But he's having trouble getting far because the college he wanted to attend kicked him out because he couldn't pay for it. His best friend (haven't given them too much thought yet) is his number one supporter, and wants to do anything to help him succeed in his dream. He mentions that he knew of a restaurant that was hiring chefs, but that you had to be top notch in order to get in. Geronimo doubted that he would actually get in since he didn't have any experience working a culinary job , but his friend forces him to apply. He ends up getting hired, and as he works for the restaurant, he learns that cooking is serious work, and that there are so many more things he has to learn about mastering the culinary arts.
Geronimo is generally a nervous and shy person, but when he's feeling confident he likes to flatter others with genuine compliments. When he's comfortable, he can be quite cheerful, but when he's cooking he suddenly gets a very uncharacteristically serious vibe. His reasoning is that he doesn't want to mess up the recipe and have to start over, even though he's been cooking for so long that he rarely makes mistakes.
That's kind of why I made him have a serious expression in the drawing. He doesn't want to mess up those perfectly made pancakes XD
