(thank you so much to @surrender-souls for letting me know about oobi in the submission under the cut, that i accidentally hit delete on instead of publish so i can't answer properly anymore)

mostly from what i've read of his writings he tends to just write things phonetically/in his own dialect instead of the then current correct way of writing words! like f.ex. in the post i wrote those tags on he wrote 'jei' instead of 'jeg' and 'hærli' instead of 'herlig'. both of which are very clear examples of the phonetically "correct" instead of gammatically correct ways of spelling those words

he also drops consonants Everywhere, like 'rusisk' should instead be written 'russisk', which makes his writing sound a bit slow at times! of course not slow as in stupid mind you, but slow as in the sounds in the words literally get dragged out! you see in norwegian a double consonant in the middle of the word ususally means that the sound is "quick"! like take 'hakke' (to chop) vs 'hake' (chin) ; with 'hakke' being pronouced like 'hack-eh' and 'hake' being more like haah-keh' <- i like to picture it like dropping a bouncing ball vs dropping slime ANYWAYS the point is that since he tends to drop a lot of consonants the words automatically have the effect of being stretched out therefor slow

ok i confess i haven't actually been reading a lot lately i gotta admit so my list is very short. BUT my recommendations are:

do not read the terror the book is Not Good. the book is so ass. (i mean you can read it if you want but if you expect it to be like the show you will be sorely disappointed)

MADHOUSE AT THE END OF THE EARTH BY JULIAN SANCTON GOD PLEASE READ MADHOUSE. IT'S SO GOOD. it's about the 1897 belgian antarctic expedition and although it wasn't very deadly just about everything that can go wrong went wrong. i can only describe it as it feels like if it's always sunny in philadelphia wrote a polar exploration episode. this was probably playing in the background at all times. unbelievable situation. also i need you to meet roald amundsen

speaking of, i've been making my way through "my life as an explorer" which is amundsen's memoir and it's been so fun. absolutely wild guy 10/10 recommend he is endlessly fascinating to me

fictional & it's been a while since i read it but i do remember enjoying the north water by ian mcguire! it has some heavier content in it so look out for that but it was decent. (the tv adaptation looks neat too & the episodes i saw were good but unfortunately i am really bad at finishing tv shows, so, i can't say for sure)
