fun couple days up @surf.relik 🙌 in Malibu. really blessed to have @rachaeltilly riding my craft (actually her craft too). she joins in on the work when she can. she helped lay up the right side of the @hoffmanfabrics flower on her new short board seen here in the Relik longboard mix. I’d delivered it finished yesterday to the contest site and it just ended up sitting there as you see it. made me so thankful for the variety of materials and shapes I’ve been exposed to over the years. my dad really got me into the shaping deal amongst a pretty happening short board scene in the late 80’s. it was those that I cut my teeth on. seems like it’s been a pretty heavy longboard shaping load lately. I sense a little wave of handcrafted short stuff brewing. maybe even some thick foiled high density foam glass on fins. not so much generic white sand finish throw away stuff but fabric, bright color, good wood, razor edges and great glass. fine handcrafted short board goodness. pumped! thanks for such a great event #surfrelik #lovewhatyoudo (at Malibu, California)

Wow. What a fantastic event at the first @surf.relik contest. About a year ago I was asked to oversee the single fin division for this exciting new tour. Of course I obliged and put my best foot forward trying to give back to the sport and lifestyle that has given so much to me. I organized a panel of qualified single fin judges to make sure the event was scored fairly so the single fin guys were stoked. Lots of jobs need to get done in an event like this so I picked up anywhere I could. I photographed it, announced it, beach marshalled it, just whatever it took to make it run smoothly. Everyone from @surf.relik kinda had that same approach. Do what ya gotta. I think the final outcome was great and everyone who attended had a great time and was well taken care of. It by no means was perfect and we welcome any constructive criticism you have to offer. This event is about the athletes and tuning this tour to there needs is the goal. This first event was an invitational because we needed a starting point but they will be having qualifiers so everyone has a fair shot at getting in. On a personal level, it was so great to meet so many wonderful and inspiring people. Building relationships and enjoying this lifestyle is where my heart is at. Watching my friends surf perfect waves and getting paid to do so is just as rewarding as participating myself. Thank you to anyone who came out to participate and big thanks to my judges for doing a fantastic job. It was a complete honor to work along side such pros. Excited and honored to watch some of the most talented longboard surfers in the world at Malibu today. Working on this event has been very emotional with lots of ups and downs. The @surf.relik crew are great people whom are doing there best to give back to longboarding. Paving a clear path to professional longboard surfing for the kids is the mission.
