May 23:
On this date in 1980, Iron Maiden released their EP, Sanctuary. "Sanctuary" was originally a non-album track but was added to the US release, and eventually to every other one. Still, this EP, besides featuring the um, killer, Maggie Thatcher artwork, has a live version of "I've Got the Fire" with Dianno, and a good liver version of "Drifeter" too
On the 23rd of May, 2000, Dynamite Hack came out with Superfast, their second album.
People know this album--I know this album--because of the brilliant cover of "Boyz in the Hood." whether or not there is anything else good on the album remains a mystery to me, and I'm sure to damn near everyone else who knows the "Hood" joint.
Also on that day, German art collective Chicks on Speed dropped their second album, Will Save Us All.
Today is the 20th anniversary of the release of Grides, The Soft Machine's archival live album.
Thank you very much Cuneiform for this, a recording of the band from October 1970, at the height of its powers, Dean-Hopper-Ratledge-Wyatt. It is the absolute spuzz.
