This MV has been a huge surprise to long time fans and followers of the lore, in no small part because of the inclusion of scenes like the train, a Yorushika live concert, and even Amy himself.

However, we have been perplexed about who the Deer is. I thought of something while I was watching the MV on the toilet.

At about 2:50, we see the Deer raise his hand to the moon, after which we transition to Amy doing the same thing. So, easy win right? That's clearly Amy!

Not quite.

At 0:45 we see the Deer get into the train from the POV of a rider. But obviously then, that Deer couldn't possibly be Amy. The POV of the train passenger is clearly a nod to Spring Thief, where we see though Ojisan's eyes. Therefore, in this MV, this man is either Ojisan himself or some other reincarnation, like Amy or the Painter Boy. Therefore, the Deer cannot be Amy.

At least, not living.

This could be a nod to Amy having died and, with his soul having gone on to the next reincarnation, he is traveling the world/worlds to find a meaning to his life (which was basically the entire reason he ended his life). Maybe he went to meet his creators, to find a passion for music again.

What also makes me believe this is the last scene of the MV

We see the Deer man start running frantically, throwing away his cape and deer mask, symbolizing Amy's desire to finally be known/seen for his true self, not the stoic persona he puts on. After watching the Yorushika live, his creator's art, the fire for music inside his heart lit up again.

Finally, the fact that we see him running to his guitar (clearly the same one from the dock/Nautilus), which is abandoned in an eerie liminal-like endless desert, to me proves that he is lost, both metaphorically and physically, in the afterlife. The moon in the last shot also mirrors the moon seen by Amy on the pier before his death, yet another clue that gives credence to this theory.

I would also like to add that, if this is true, there is finally a concrete bridge/connection between the Elma/Amy and Ghost Boy/Bus Station Girl storylines, since the Ghost Boy and the Bus Station Girl were looking for each other for lifespans and reincarnations until they finally met. The ghost boy is the soul of Amy finally free of reincarnating forever and wandering the afterlife, and disappears after he finally meets Elma (her soul) again.

Amy's soul was stuck wandering through the ether, visiting his reincarnations again and again, until the curse finally broke for both of them, after he found passion for music (by watching suis and nbuna live), and they could meet again.

This would mean that That's Why I Gave Up On Music and Elma were the true beginning of the Yorushika world's lore, the beginning of the art curse, brought on by Amy committing the sin of ending his life against God's will.

The Summer Grass and Makeinu albums weren't the beggining of the Yorushika lore story.

They were the ending.

and we are just now seeing Amy's journey into meeting her again, at the bus station.

They happened after everything else, every reincarnation, every MV, every artistic doubt along the way and every heartbreak.

And then, their souls could finally rest.
