Summary: They are standing around the map just like they were a few hours earlier, trying to find clues of potential tunnels underground. Itâs so much like earlier, but at the same time itâs not, because thereâs one person missing from around the table and Buck feels that empty space like itâs a physical ache, a feeling he hasnât been able to shake since he felt the weight leave the rope earlier when Eddie cut it and let himself fall.
-.-.-
Eddie's rescue, the aftermath, and a hell of a lot of feelings.
For the malec prompts, 7, t, 22 ? Feel free to change stuff if you prefer!

"i'm going to need you to put on some underwear before you say anything else."

Magnus made his way around the sprawling architecture of the New York Institute, looking for the wing of living quarters. The buttresses that framed the familiar third-story window would have made fair footholds for scaling the building, but there were better methods available to him. Twisting his index and middle fingers, he summoned a dense amalgamation of magic beneath his feet that expanded upwards. Fortunately, Alec had left the window unlatched and slightly ajar, allowing Magnus to slip through and land soundlessly in a crouch.
Just as he straightened up, the bathroom door opened and damp steam from the shower billowed out. Alec emerged, naked save for a towel wrapped around his waist, but when he caught sight of Magnus, an almost smug smile pulled at his lips. âHey,â he greeted, striding over to kiss him softly, one hand gently cradling Magnusâ cheek while the other held the towel in place at his hipbone.
âIs this for me?â Magnus teased, running the soft outer part of his forefinger along the damp skin of Alecâs bare chest. âHow thoughtful.â
Alec laughed boisterously, his ears faintly pink with a warm blush. âSorry to disappoint you but that was just a happy accident. Patrol ran late and I had to deal withâ Well, that doesnât really matter.â
Clicking his tongue in disapproval, Magnus shook his head. âHow can I be disappointed with this outcome, unintentional as it may be.â He skated his palms up to Alecâs upper back and reverently drew them down across the planes of muscle until he got down to the small of his back. His fingertips dug into the soft skin above his buttocks needfully, pressing just hard enough that his blunt nails would leave behind little crescents if one were to look hard enough. âI still come out victorious in this scenario, I think.â

The way that Alec smiled at him, tired and weary but endlessly soft, made Magnus feel like his heart were being squeezed just this side of painful. It was the most vulnerable he had ever seen him, and it was simply theirs to share.
âHey, Magnus⌠Why did you agree to this, us, like this?â Alec gestured vaguely. His eyebrows drew tightly together in consternation, and Magnus fought the urge to kiss the skin between into relaxing. âWhy are you willing to hide with me?â
It had been a few weeks since their conversation about an arranged marriage for the sake of preserving the Lightwood legacy and foothold in the New York Institute. Maybe it was some kind of desperation that had driven Magnus to be so cavalier about his willingness to accept the âdonât ask, donât tellâ mentality of shadowhunters. The thought of losing the first spark of hope in love that he had had in over a century was excruciating, and concealing it so meticulously was a high price, but he was paying it. In a way, though, keeping this fragile thing between them a secret, left to grow in discretion, felt a little like a relief. Whatever it may be with time, it was theirs alone.
At the silence, Alec licked his lips nervously and started to say something.
Instead, Magnus held up a finger to his mouth to quiet him anticipatorily. Through a roguish grin, he said, âIâm going to need you to put on some underwear before you say anything else. I want to give that question the answer it deserves, but thatâs a tremendous ask when youâre up against me like this.â
Alec rolled his eyes as if it were nothing more than a line, but there was something in his eyes that betrayed his self-satisfaction. And that was exactly what Magnus had intended. âAll right, well then, look away.â
Magnus turned his back with exaggerated movements and crossed his arms over his chest with a smile. It was nice to have someone to be this way with again; it felt like liberation to have someone with whom he was free to be himself without the burden of titles and expectations. He was exposed when he stripped away the personas and facades that were like secondary skins. They were facets of himself that people expected him to have, but Alec never seemed to want him to be anything but Magnus. Not Magnus Bane, not High Warlock Bane, not Prince Regent of Edom.
âAre you decent?â Magnus teased after the sounds of fabric on skin had subsided.
In response, Alec came up behind him and leaned in just enough that his chest brushed Magnusâ back. âAll done.â
Magnus shifted his weight to lean back into Alec lightly and reached back to thread his fingers into Alecâs still-damp hair. Softly scratching his nails through the soft strands made Alec hum contentedly. âWe should sit so we can discuss your question.â
âCan we lay down?â
âOf course.â
They climbed on the bed over the sheets and comforter, and Alec immediately rolled over so Magnus could curl up behind him. He even lifted his arm away from his chest so Magnus could slide an arm over his hip bone and anchor his hand on his abdomen. This was something they had done once beforeâbearing their heart to anyone was hard for both of them, but this way made it a little easier.
Magnus took a slow breath, gathering his thoughts appropriately. âYouâre a possibility, Alexander. A beautiful, liberating possibility that Iâve never had the fortune to come across in all my life.â
Ever melancholy, Alec replied, âHow can you feel that way when Iâm basically shoving you back in the closet with me, and asking you to sneak around and be ashamed of something that should be so simple. It makes me feel like a child to ask you toâŚstoop this low.â
âIt was my choice, Alec. I chose to put myself in the position Iâm in. And for the record,â Magnus added, pressing his lips to the back of Alecâs ear, âIâm glad that I did.â
Alec pressed back perceptibly closer to him, ducking his head to press into the crook of Magnusâ neck in a self-soothing gesture. âYouâre not just saying that so that I feel less guilty, right? Because it doesnât work if you donât mean it.â
Many times throughout Magnusâ life he had been in the position of feeling at the disadvantage with the people he loved. He worried himself sick over whether he was being too clingy, too transparent, too vulnerable, and then he overcorrected and worried about being too aloof, too distant, and too unavailable. The cyclical questioning and self-doubt had ruined a lot of encounters before they even had the chance to become something concrete. Even now, there was a seed of doubt about what he was doing with Alecâmaybe he was giving him too much credit, and maybe putting his own heart on the line was naĂŻve.
âI donât have the luxury of knowing what will come of this, Alexander,â he said carefully, âbut I am certain that never giving it the chance would be something I would always regret. Will I always be content to be the soul of discretion in regards to you and what we may feel? Likely not. But you didnât ask me for forever, and Iâm not asking you either. I think both of us just needed the chance to be worth the risk of seeing it through to whatever end it might reach.â
Warm calloused fingers made their way down Magnusâ arm to lace between his own and squeeze gently. âI can live with that.â
Magnus chuckled and pressed a kiss to Alecâs hair. âI hope you can do more than that.â
âMmm.â Alec yawned and rolled slightly, taking Magnus with him. âFor now, though, Iâm just going to sleep with it.â
ââItâ being me?â
âBy the angel,â Alec groaned, exasperated yet fighting a smile. âYou talk too much sometimes.â Before Magnus could reply, he had captured his lips in a languorous kiss. Each one they shared felt like a discovery that Alec relished, unrehearsed and uncertain but wholehearted in the best way. The anticipation and enthusiasm of each new moment they shared was somehow so much better than any shared with Magnusâ most experienced ex-lovers.
Magnus pulled away just enough that their lips parted but their noses still touched. âI thought you wanted to sleep.â
âThis is even better than my white noise machine. Having you here isâŚpeaceful.â
âArenât you a romantic,â Magnus said dryly. But when Alec pulled him close again, he was helpless to resist.
Merry Christmas, @sugarandspace! I hope you enjoy this!

Please Remember Next Time
Alec walked into the flat and slid his sheath of arrows off his shoulder, wincing when he tried to grip the strap with his bruised hand. He sensed Magnus appearing at the same moment and struggled to control his facial features despite knowing heâd been caught. Magnus came closer but didnât speak as Alec stored his weapon away.
When he finally looked at his boyfriend, it was with a genuine smile. The pain in his hand was already forgotten just by seeing Magnus. Really, the bruise wasnât much of anything. In Alecâs mind, it couldnât compete with countless other injuries heâd sustained over the years, but Magnus couldnât forget it as easily. He hurried forward and cupped Alecâs hand gently in both of his own, turning it over to inspect the bruise that had grown even darker than Alec had realized.
Alec let out a low hiss through his teeth. Now that Magnus was calling his attention back to it, Alec couldnât deny that his hand hurt, but he held back any further reaction, not wanting to alarm Magnus further.
âWhat happened?â Magnus asked, worry lining his face and keeping his shoulders stiff.
Alec sighed. There was no use beating around the bush. Magnus would see through any attempts to brush it off, though Alec maintained that it wasnât that big of a deal. Theyâd both seen him in a far worse state.
âThere were some demons,â Alec began, perhaps unnecessarily considering that Magnus had known he was working. âWe were fighting them, but well, in the thick of it I somehow managed to punch a wall?â
It came out as a question despite Alec knowing exactly how heâd managed to do it. He didnât want to detail for Magnus that a demon had pissed him off so much that heâd gone for a punch instead of using his bow or that heâd missed when the demon had vanished on its own, reappearing a few feet away within seconds.
Magnus didnât ask for those details anyway as he ran his finger over the bruise with a feather-light touch. It was a simple bruise, easy enough to heal. Magnusâ brow knitted together in confusion as he looked up from the bruise into Alecâs eyes.
âWhy didnât you use an iratze?â
Alec shrugged. There was no good answer.
âThere was a lot going on, and it wasnât that major. By the time the fight was over, Iâd forgotten the bruise was even there. All I wanted to do was come home, so I came, and now here I am. It doesnât hurt that much. Just a little ache whenever I flex my hand or touch something. Other than that, I forget itâs there.â
Magnus let out a gust of air, his expression a combination of worry, exasperation, and amazement that Alec didnât know what to do with. Jace hadnât even noticed the bruise and had likely assumed that, if Alec was hurt, he could take care of himself, which was true enough. Izzy had commented that he needed to heal it but also hadnât put up a fuss when Alec had said he was going to Magnusâ loft with the bruise still on his hand.
He wasnât used to anyone making such a big deal out of something as minor as a bruise. Shadowhunters were always covered in them, and it wasnât that unusual to not bother with an iratze. At least, thatâs what Alec believed.
With a slight roll of his eyes, Magnus waved his hand above Alecâs, blue sparks traveling between them. The bruise disappeared as quickly as it would have with an iratze. Alec pulled his hand from Magnusâ to give it an experimental flex, and sure enough, it felt like heâd never been bruised at all. He smiled at Magnus before pressing a quick kiss to his lips. Magnus leaned into the touch eagerly, one of his hands clutching onto the edge of Alecâs hunting gear jacket.
Alec tried to deepen the kiss, but Magnus pulled away, smiling at Alecâs pout. One of his handâs found Alecâs formerly bruised one again, running his thumb over the knuckles.
At some point, without Alec realizing it was happening, he had become very good at reading Magnusâ facial expressions. He wouldnât have thought it possible when theyâd first met; Magnus had seemed like a locked box that Alec hadnât had the key to back then. But somehow he had learned what he could from the outside of the box until it decided to open itself for him.
He knew what Magnus was thinking even though the warlock hadnât said it out loud.
âI really am getting better about it,â Alec said. âNine times out of ten, I use an iratze. This time I just forgot. Iâm sorry.â
Magnus shook his head, giving Alec a small smile as his free hand came up to cup Alecâs cheek.
âYou donât need to apologize to me, Alexander. Iâm only worried about you. Maybe it was just a bruise, but it was causing you pain. Please try to remember to heal yourself next time.â
Alec nodded, nuzzling into Magnusâ touch. It really was easier to remember that these days. Largely because Magnusâ sad face would loom in his mindâs eye whenever Alec was injured and hadnât bothered with an iratze. His desire to avoid seeing that expression was usually enough, but that night, he had been too occupied with other thoughts to think of it before Magnus had seen him.
He took a step closer and laid his head on Magnusâ shoulder, allowing his eyes to flutter shut. Magnusâ arms wrapped around him, and Alec followed suit, taking in a deep breath and smiling at Magnusâ scent as it engulfed him.
In that moment, it was hard to believe heâd ever been in any pain at all.

âThereâs no need to apologise,â Magnus says. âI understand. Youâre a soldier and youâve been raised to stay vigilant. I get it. I wonât sneak up on you like that again.â
âPlease do,â Alec says quickly, and when Magnus raises his eyebrows he continues. âI want to get used to your touch.â

Summary:Â Magnus looked at him with a curious, yet soft gaze, as if trying to understand something. Maybe heâd found an answer because soon he nodded and prepared to play that song with Alec.
And even when Alec began the first notes, he couldnât help but think how true that statement was.Â
This song brought you to my life.
Maybe itâs the closest thing Iâll have with you.

So this was my original fic for the Malec Mini Bang. Unfortunately I lost steam for it after a while and stopped writing it. I do have a complete chapter done.
Basically I had this cracky idea about what Lydia said in season 1 about women in Idris lining up to have Alecâs hand in marriage and I just thought to myself âwhat if they still tried to get with Alec when he and Magnus moved to Alicante when they get promoted. Thus began these bitter, but still thirsty women trying to get Alec to leave Magnus and be with him but buttering him up.
Hereâs a lovely snippet of it:
He gets about halfway through when a knock on the door pulls him away. Opening the door reveals a petite woman with blonde hair holding a basket.
âHello, Mr. Lightwood! Oop or should I say Inquisitor Lightwood,â she giggles.
âActually itâs Lightwood-Bane,â he corrects. A sneer appears on her face before it quickly disappears.
âOh my apologies! My name is Cassandra. I live in the area and decided to welcome the new neighbor and Inquisitor to Idris!â She beams, holding out the basket in front of her. âI thought I would stop by and give you this basket full of homemade baked goods! I didnât know if you were allergic to anything so a warning that there are nuts in some of the goodies.â
âThank you, that is very kind of you,â Alec says as he reaches for the basket.
âWhoâs at the door, darling,â Magnus sighs as he slips an arm around Alec, leaning into his side. Alec wraps his arm around Magnus to steady him and presses a kiss to his forehead.
âThis is Cassandra,â he says. âShe decided to welcome us to the neighborhood with a basket of home-baked goods.â
âOh, it seems that word is already out about your sweet tooth,â Magnus chuckles. Magnus looks over at the woman and sees her scowling at him. âIs everything alright dear?â
âYes everything is fine,â she quips before shoving the basket into their arms. âI just forgot I need to be somewhere and I am late. Have a wonderful day!â
Cassandra runs down the steps and hurries her way down the cobblestone street. Magnus and Alec watch as she stomps her way down the road, hands clenched at her sides.
