TODAY'S FACT IS
Did you know that the Styrian Praying Lacewing (Mantispa styriaca) is a mantidfly found in southern and central Europe? Upon hatching in the autumn, they immediately go into hibernation for the winter. After the hibernation, the larvae find a female wolf or fishing spider and fight its way into the spider's egg sac. It feasts on the spiderlings and pupates in the spider egg sac. Once emerged as an adult, this mantidfly goes back to hunting, but this time it has its raptorial forelegs.
