I couldn’t believe the night had gone so fast, it felt like two hours since I went to bed, but I felt so refreshed and my tiresome was gone, I was really happy about it; I didn’t want to be tired on my real first day in Manchester, I mean, yeah, I came here yesterday, but it wasn’t a real first day, I just came from the train station to my new flat and met no one, I barely saw one of my flatmates, all I did was unpack my stuff and go to sleep, but today, today had to be perfectly perfect. I was still anxious because I was finally going to meet my other flatmate, and maybe I could speak a bit more to Emma and Alana. I really hoped they like me; that was the most important thing for me, besides school.
I hopped out of bed and went directly to my room’s bathroom, I stripped off of my clothes and turned the water on until it was perfectly warm, once I was done washing the dirt off my body and completely clean, I took a towel from the holder to dry myself off; I walked through the door that led to my room and stepped in front of my already organized closet, I didn’t think I was going to do anything that day so I just decided to wear some black leggings, a grey tank top and some grey snickers, I let my hair naturally straight, once I was all dressed up I went back to the bathroom and pulled out my makeup bag from one of the drawers, I knew I wasn’t going to do anything but I couldn’t just walk out of my room like a hobo, that would give my flatmates a bad impression of me. I let my makeup be really natural just covering my imperfections with some foundation and powder and applying a tiny bit of mascara on my top eyelashes.
I let everything organized and finally walked out of the room to find Alana preparing some breakfast… in her pyjamas. I did my best not to look like a hobo and there she was, looking like one. Not to be mean or anything but she seriously looked like one, I mean, her hair was all messy and she had eye-makeup residue, I guess she was one of the people who didn’t like to take their makeup off at night and just slept with it on and woke up like a raccoon. I remember that back in Colombia my mother always made me take it off before going to sleep because she said it was not good for the skin, and she was right.
“Oh hey, I didn’t see you there,” Alana said smiling waking me from my thoughts.
“I am sorry I didn’t get to show you the flat last night but I was in a rush,” she shrugged.
“Don’t worry, really; it’s fine.” I smiled.
“So, where exactly are you from?” She asked.
“I’m from Bogotá, in Colombia; down in South America,” I explained.
“Oh yeah, I know where it is.”
That was the first time someone from a native English language country told me they knew where Colombia was.
“Really?” I asked amazed.
“Yeah, that’s where Shakira is from, isn’t it?”
There was an awkward silence for a moment until she decided to break it.
“So, do you want anything to eat?”
“Oh, no, don’t worry, I’ll cook myself something.”
“There’s no problem, really I’m already making mine, it won’t bother me to do another, come on, tell me what you want.”
“Fine.” I sighed. “Whatever you’re cooking is fine.” I smiled.
“Pancakes it is.” She smiled back.
Oh God, I love pancakes so much, I can eat them all day, every day, all year and I will never get tired of them, ever.
I didn’t want the award silence to continue while she was preparing the breakfast so this time it was me the one who decided to break the silence.
“So… where are the other girls?”
“Emma is sleeping and Eleanor must be out with her boyfriend.” She rolled her eyes and I giggled.
I love that name, it somewhat reminds me of Eleanor Calder; Louis’ girlfriend.
“Oh, I know it is still too soon, but the girls and I were talking yesterday and we thought it would be fine if all four of us went to have lunch together today like at three in the afternoon.”
“Oh that’d be great, but I’ll have to change my clothes.” I half laughed.
“And I’ll have to clean my face so I stop looking like a raccoon.” She giggled. I thought the same.
She handed me a plate with three pancakes and I ate them slowly, to taste every piece of it, they were absolutely delicious.
Once I was done, I thanked her and washed the dishes, she offered to wash them herself but I couldn’t be so shameless, so I washed them, as much as I hate to do it I had to get used to it because I wasn’t going to let the other girls wash my dirty plates and glasses.
I went back to my room and laid on my bed, I took out a book that I really loved, I had read it almost three times now, and was reading it for the fourth time, it was just really great. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. I loved all about that book. How she fell in love with Alexei Vronsky while being married to Alexei Karenin, and she finally ended up killing herself for love. I know I already know everything that happens in that book, but I just love it, and that’s why I keep reading it.
When I checked the time it was already two in the afternoon, so I decided to start getting ready for lunch. I wasn’t going to be overdressed or anything but I preferred having time to spare rather than being lack of time, anyway I was just going to change my clothes and retouch my makeup a little bit, I know you don’t need a whole hour to do it, but my problem was that I was always undecided of what to wear, that’s why I needed plenty of time.
I stood in front of my closet and stared at it for almost twenty minutes, looking for something to wear, and I finally spotted my black leather skinny jeans and took them out. I had my trousers, now I needed something to wear on the top, I kept looking at my closet for another fifteen minutes until I saw my beautiful beige sweater with red hearts on it, and it was ripped at the bottom of it. I loved it.
I decided to let my tank top under the sweater so I didn’t feel too naked, so I just put the sweater on and then I slipped on my leather skinny jeans, completing the look with some black flats. I went back to the bathroom and retouched my makeup a little bit, this time, applying a bit of blush on my cheeks.
When I was done, I decided to check the time and it was already two and forty-five. I couldn’t believe it took me so much to do absolutely nothing, maybe all the time went by choosing my clothes.
“Sara!” Someone called my name.
“Yeah?” I called back.
“We’re all ready, what about you?”
I took my shades and my black purse, and headed outside of my room, when I got out I spotted Alana with another girl, I didn’t know if it was Eleanor or Emma, I mean, I had talked to Emma before but I never got to see her face.
“Hi, I’m Sara.” I pulled out my hand to be shaken but the girl hugged me.
“Hi, Sara. I’m Emma, it’s really nice to meet you,” she said as she let go of the hug.
“Nice to meet you, too.” I smiled and turned my look to Alana. “Where’s the other girl?” I asked her.
“Oh, she said she wasn’t going to be able to make it here on time, so it was better to meet her there.”
I wonder where there is.
I didn’t want to be too pushy so I just stayed quiet and didn’t say anything about the restaurant we were going.
We got out of the apartment and Emma locked the door, once she did so we headed straight to the elevator and then to Emma’s car, she had a beautiful grey BMW 4 Series Coupe. Emma sat on the driver’s seat as Alana sat on the passenger’s seat and I obviously sat on the back seat. Alana decided to turn on the radio and Clarity by Zedd was being played so I started whispering along. A couple more songs were played when Emma finally pulled up in front of a restaurant called Rosso. I remember Harry and Louis used to come here when they lived together so I was really excited I got to eat in the same place as them, but I kept my excitement for myself. We hopped out of the car and headed to the door.
“Oh there she is!” Alana said pointing at a girl, but I could only see hair beautiful dark waved hair.
We walked over to her and just when we were getting there Emma decided to call her.
“Eleanor! Long-time no see!” She jokingly called and as soon as she did that the girl turned around making me look at her face.
It was Eleanor Jane fucking Calder.
I had to keep calm because I didn’t want her to think I was a creep.
“Oh hi, Alana!” She smiled and hugged her. She was so pretty.
“Hello girl!” Emma said hugging her once Eleanor let go of the hug with Alana.
“Oh, hello, you must be Sara, our new flat mate.”
Holy fucking shit. Eleanor Jane Calder knew my fucking name!
“Hi, yes, I am, and you must be Eleanor,” I smiled trying to act like I didn’t know about her existence.
“It’s me!” She sing-sang. “It’s really nice to meet you.” She hugged me.
Try not to freak out, try not to freak out! I thought
“Nice to meet you, too.” I hugged her back.
All of us sat on our respective chairs and a waiter (a really hot waiter, may I add). I didn’t quite understand why every fucking guy over here was hot as Hell, but anyway, our waiter gave us the menu and a couple minutes later, none of us wanted any starter so we just ordered the main meal. Emma and Eleanor ordered a Spigola (fillet of sea bass topped with dill oil and baked under a potato crust, served over crushed potatoes and peas), and Alana and I ordered a Filocino (rolled fresh pizza base filled with cherry tomato, baby spinach and smoked mozzarella).
“And what can I get you to drink?” Our waiter asked.
“Um… I want a Kaufman’s Vintage,” said Alana.
Why would she want vodka at three thirty in the afternoon?
“I think I am going to get a Corona,” Said Emma.
Beer? I think I got some alcoholic roommates.
“I want a Canada Dry.” I said and they all gave me an are-you-serious?-look
“I want a Ciroc.” Eleanor finally said.
How can they have lunch and drink alcohol? Like, I am certainly not the kind of person who drinks on the day, I like drinking at night… not that I am an alcoholic, but if I am going to drink, I prefer doing it at night.
Our meals arrived and we all started eating, it was seriously delicious. Now I know why Harry and Louis used to come here. Speaking of Louis, I couldn’t believe I was seating right beside his girlfriend. Once we were done we ordered our desserts.
When we finished eating we paid everything and then went back to our apartment, but I still couldn’t get over the fact that I was living in the same apartment as Eleanor Jane Calder, and like I said before, I didn’t want to freak her out, that’s why I couldn’t tell her about my crazy obsession with her boyfriend and his four band mates. When Emma pulled in front of the building we all hopped out of the car and headed to the apartment, I said goodbye to everyone and went straight to my room, I needed to get ready for my first day as a University of Manchester student.
