1 october 2020
can you believe it’s already october! i’ve been in school now for roughly a month and it is not a good time :0
also! it’s october! that means it’s time for my first study challenge, hosted by the lovely @myhoneststudyblr! i’ve always wanted to do a study challenge but i’ve never been able to find one, so this is the perfect opportunity!!!
day 1: intro & what you study!!!!
so hello! I’m megan, I’m 17, and I’m a junior in high school. i guess i study normal high school classes??? the usual. . . bio, english, us history, calc, etc. . .
useful note-taking tips for heavy content!
hello everyone, it’s been a while. today i’ll be sharing a few tips on how to organise notes with loads of information that i’ve been using religiously (especially in geography and history). i hope this helps!
read the text first
don’t jump right into it without knowing how to structure your notes, if not you’ll have to keep redoing it later. highlighting with a standardised colour code system can help too!
try organising information as how you would actually write it in an exam
since geography and history requires writing a lot of long answers and essays, i organise mine in a table with the standard columns like ‘definition’, ‘point’, ‘explanation’ and ‘example’. it makes answers look organised and easy for the examiners to mark, especially in stressful timed conditions since you’ve already done the planning beforehand.
paraphrase information in the textbook
this makes memorising a lot easier since it is in words you actually understand. additionally, the information in my textbook can be all over the place, hence i paraphrase the information in a cause-effect or step-by-step sequence to standardise it. this also makes it easier for examiners to follow.
use mindmaps to see all the content in one page
since i type out my notes, i may not be able to see the bigger picture as all the information are on different pages. thus, i would make a mindmap for subheadings/ subtopics so that i can see everything at one glance. this is important for heavy-content subjects as there can be many different factors and memorising them individually wouldn’t work. before an exam, i would write in chunks of information in super small handwriting to fit everything in a page and highlight the important points, hence my 23 pages of typed notes can fit into 6 pages. it’s kind of weird but it works for me
reorganise information
yes, you may have organised information from your textbook. now, reorganise it. for example, in history you can make a summary of what different people did in the key events or a timeline, instead of solely having information on the key events. this is especially important in essay writing.
if you have any questions just hit me up!
** pls open for better quality 🥵🥵 it’s been a hot minute since i’ve posted here (or been here if we’re gonna be real) // it’s the last day of march and this was my favorite spread for the month itself !!!
~bloom and grow
and in the half year of the "new year" that has passed, time may have flown by fast for you, time may have gone slow- but you've learnt, you've grown. Maybe not by the number called age but by experience. Everyday spent on the face of this planet of ours, everyday that we draw in a breath of air from the atmosphere surrounding us, everyday that we go to class, everyday that we stress out about our work, everyday that we debate and talk about pressing issues, everyday that we complain about the weather, cheer our team on the TV, binge watch shows alone or spend time with loved ones. Life is a work in progress. And you bloom and grow, till your last breath, collecting experiences like fallen flowers in a garden- some fresh as new, some wilted with time, but all still as beautiful. And as new blooms come into view with the rising sun, there is hope.
Some bad experiences, some good experiences. Some mistakes and regret, some gratitude- all shaping you to go ahead on this one hell of a ride. Life.
