I hope I hit all of my usual end of school year/start of summer posts! I thought I would also give a life update post as well since it has been so long since I've spoken with all of my moots.
High school junior year, even for a homeschooled student, is ridiculously complicated! Not only was I completing my Gold Award project for Girl Scouts, but it's also university prep year. I take the SAT next Saturday, so I will be utilizing the free time I have until then to continue test prep. I do feel very prepared for it, but I will also be glad when I'm done with it. I feel like this past year academically went very well, although it was a tad stressful, especially since I decided to do all of the extra credit that my curriculum offers. What can I say? I'm an overachiever; always have been.
The teen leadership program I've done the last couple of years completed wonderfully too. I had such a fun time at the final conference, but I'm not sure if I will be applying again for my senior year. The time commitment was a lot more than it was the year before, and I imagine it'll be even more demanding next year. Plus, I want to keep my "job" at the library if at all possible. It's only two hours a week, and technically volunteer, but it is considered work experience given that it's a position that requires a minimum six month commitment with set times. I can't just go in whenever I feel like it like I do when I volunteer at the Mission; although, I usually do try to volunteer there on Saturdays during the academic year.
I also passed my ballet class exams, so I will be in the Advanced 3 classes next year. The spring performance went great, too. I can't believe next year will be my last one. As much as I don't want to pursue ballet as a career, it is still a huge part of my life. I enjoy dancing every chance I get. It's sort of my time to unwind and enjoy myself.
I am excited for this summer. Not only do I have my internship that starts next week, but I'll be spending an entire week in July at my #1 choice university for a pre-college program. I'm so excited to experience a university-level class and see the residence halls and just everything. Mom and Dad will be traveling with me for that and spending time with both grandparents while I'm there. Apparently they're all going to meet up halfway at some resort and spend a few days. Julien has a required summer internship for his program, so he won't be around anyway. Then I'm traveling to China for almost two weeks where I'll get to practice all the Chinese I've been practicing with Dad and studying on my own. I am literally counting down the days and cannot wait! Plus all the history in D.C. this summer for my second trip. Then my ballet intensive, but that's local at least. And all in the interim, I will be meeting with my senior thesis mentor (advisor) to prepare for my senior research paper. I've already been sent tons of resources and handouts for brainstorming, but she said not to get too overwhelmed since I have so much going on already and we can work on it together more when we have our summer meetings.
Okay, so the summer is PACKED, and I am SO ready.
I hope everyone else got through any exam season they may have had successfully, and I also hope we all have a summer of treasured memories!
I will also do my best to keep up with my once a week minimum updates to hopefully get me back in a routine for when I start my last year of high school. I'm still mind-blown that I'm starting senior year. It feels like not that long ago when I first started this blog way back at the beginning of 8th grade! 🦄
