This is what the original illustrations by Joseph Schindelman look like. I remember breaking out in cold sweat as I read Charlie and The Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl late into the night in fourth grade. Vermicious Knids are extremely venomous colonising aliens that eat everything in their path, and have only spared Earth because they can’t get through the atmosphere. I haven’t seen these pictures in fifteen years but evidently my memories were vivid.
