I've never read Fagles' (1990) Iliad translation before, and I've started reading it in tandem with Lattimore's (1951) and Wilson's (2023) translations. It's been very interesting reading three different interpretations at once... But here are some pictures of my Fagles' annotations
I find that Fagles is very biased against (depictions of) women (see: Helen), but that his text is easier for me to comprehend than Lattimore (1951). I just finished Book 4... onto Book 5

actually working on my reading of the Thebaid. I'm examining the quid and the quale (= the what and the how) of the proem (= the Thebaid's opening lines). featuring my annotation tabs. Translations in the image are my own.
I adooore your colourful annotations and your handwriting as well. What stationery is your favorite? Do you change up colours for fun, is there some constant that makes it easy to retrieve notes/quotes? :)

I love using the Zebra Sarasa Clip 0.4 pen in grey and teal. For black pens, I use the Pilot G-2 0.5. I will also on occasion use a deep blue fountain pen! For highlighters, I usually use the Zebra Mildliner Double-Endes in grey, but I have a collection I'm trying to get through so I'll try to use whatever I have left. My all-time favorite journal is the Leuchtturm 1917 in A5!
As for my tabs, I buy most of them online! different sellers will have different color combinations. But I have soooo many because I primarily bought them for annotating books. Now I don't have much time to read books because of my schedule, so I use the tabs on articles! I don't always use the same colors for the same ideas, just because I would run out of colors lol.
When reading academic articles/chapters, I usually tab for: 1. Main point/argument 2. sources 3. terms/definitions 4. my thoughts. I've found that tabbing for those 4 things works best for me! If it's a longer work, such as the Odyssey, I'll mark themes as well (such as the trauma of war, the painful longing to return home, restoration and healing, etc).
When I'm reading books, I'll usually tab at least 1. prose/poetry I like 2. characterization 3. world building... I'll often add other tabs for different themes for that story as well.

wow, i haven't updated since june, apologies! seems like trying to do the days of productivity didn't really work. not to say i haven't been productive though!
i fixed a major math blunder i made in my code last year, and my results actually make sense now, i'm almost done with all my low-resolution models, and then i have a couple weeks left on the high-res, and then i just need to finish writing and then i'm done with my paper!! at least i hope so
i'm moving next week, i'll finally be in person again which is such a great feeling, i've really missed my department and friends while i've been away on leave. some friends have come to visit me though, which has been really sweet and i love them dearly for that
don't have any photos this time, but next time i update, you better expect a major photodump !!
i think i might try to do 2 updates a month: one at the beginning with my goals and one at the end with my accomplishments, i think that might be better than trying to post every day, for me at least, we'll see how it goes

I seriously need a sleep study, because what do you mean I've had three naps today and just woke up from another 70 minute nap at a cafe in public?? I got like 8 hours of sleep, I've been eating, I've been going to the gym, but I have no idea what's wrong with me. (I've gotten blood tests done and there's nothing out of the ordinary there. luckily I have a sleep study appointment but that's not until halfway through the semester). as someone who desperately wants to stay awake and focus and be able to drink caffeine and have it keep me alert, my struggles with sleep frustrate me so much and I just want an answer and solutions...
