The shimmering Manter Jade Raster Ultra was the perfect label choice for the first in the release of a sparkling wine range dedicated to the women of the D’Angelo family.

The D’Angelo family of winemakers have lived in the Swan Valley, Western Australia, for three generations, but before approaching Studio Lost and Found had only sold their wine to close relatives and friends.

“We started working with Torrent Wines in 2014, developing a brand strategy that would honour their Italian heritage and communicate their passion for family, food, and wine,” says Rebecca McKeating, Studio Director of Perth’s Studio Lost and Found. “With the decision to sell direct to the public, they also required assistance with wine labels for retail.”

Torrent Wines particularly wanted a set of labels that would pay homage to the women in the D’Angelo family. The ‘Emilia’ is the first release, dedicated to the matriarch of the family, and the label had to be perfect.

But first came the practicalities.

“There is a lot to consider when choosing an adhesive label stock for a wine project. Does the stock need to perform well in the fridge or an ice bucket; does it have the right luxury cues to reflect the price point of the product; does the stock work with the production budget?” Rebecca explains. “In the end it is about achieving the optimum balance between brand communication and cost. Manter Jade Raster Ultra was perfect for this project as it performs well on the bottling line and in ice buckets, but also has a lustre and texture that adds to the luxury cues for this premium product.”

Simply put, it is a beautiful stock.

“The client got quite emotional when they saw the concept for the first time. Family is very important to them and this tribute to the women in the family really hit a chord. They are so happy with how it turned out, and look forward to completing the range when the new wines are ready to bottle,” adds Rebecca.

There’s a place for Neenah papers at Studio Lost and Found…

A brand consultancy business based in sunlit Subiaco, Western Australia, Studio Lost and Found has discovered the range of Spicers products perfect for their many, varied projects.

One in particular used Neenah Classic Smooth, sourced from Wisconsin in the Midwestern United States, for all three ‘see-worthy’ beachside apartment brochures.

“We’ve been working closely with property development group Match over the last 18 months on three major apartment projects. Match is a great client – they challenge us to innovate with each and every project,” explains Daniel McKeating, Creative Director, Studio Lost and Found.

“We worked closely with Geoff Earl from Spicers to select appropriate paper stocks for each project. Geoff always comes back to us with his advice and recommendations, plus samples and mockups for us to show and discuss with our client.”

Geoff was particularly instrumental in the development of the delightful Helm By Match brochure. Advertising ‘coastal living at its finest’, the booklet is eye-pleasing not only for its sunny aquatic images, but for the ingenious zig-zag binding.

“We were keen to use a slightly different form of sewing for the binding in a zig-zag configuration,” Daniel comments. The challenge was to find a stock that was not only appropriate to the brand and the Helm project in particular, but one that would also be compatible with the sewing machines without snapping the sewing needles!

“We tested a number of different Spicers stocks. All delivered outstanding results, but we ended up proceeding with Neenah Classic Smooth in the end. This stock had the right texture and whiteness for the project, plus it performs well on the press, and worked brilliantly with the sewing machines without damaging the needles.”
