Talk on freelancing studio day (Emily)
I found this one of the very useful talks even if you don’t want to go into freelancing. Her experience and the knowledge she shared is useful for any individual entering the design agency. At first, I wasn’t sure but then my brain clicked when she began to discuss the types of works to post. This is because I struggle with this and the advice I often get is to be as generic as possible. However, Emily took the step further to actually educate us on how to be yourself. I’ve felt insecure that I need to show the industry style in my works but she showed me us, it’s about finding that niche and sticking to it (doing works you actually work whilst getting money).
Value of money
She also spoke about how to value yourself as a creative and haggle for reasonable prices.
Presentation
I’m great at presenting at uni because even if the PDF is bad, I have no problem standing up and gesturing to the necessary things. However, when you apply for a job, they can’t see me properly go through that and I struggle at times to give the relevant information in my portfolio. This is why I asked the best way to and it’s mostly about pitching the idea rather than focusing on research.
