How long will it take me to make a sculpture? Thats a question I'm often asked. Theres no simple answer. Although shaping the clay to create the forms that the client wants is the most important part of the process, its often the stage that is under the most time pressure. How long it will take to sculpt something depends on what is required of course and how accurate the clients picture reference is. If there is a model that has been agreed on then that helps enormously. . Good reference helps one work faster, vague reference breeds uncertainty and that adds time to any project. Generally speaking the more detail that is required then the longer the project will take. The photos are of sculptures I made for 3deye in London in 2019. Each of the animals had a small model made to work from as did the Laurel and Hardy portraits. I made the small model of the walking bear.
