Division of the Sexes
Student Y is very observant and curious (and very intelligent), and she asked Jelly Bean this earlier today: Y: Mrs K, I've got a question about something. Jelly: ok sure. Y (lowers voice): so you know how girls have to shave their armpits eventually when they're old enough? Jelly: yeh, happens to us all. Y (pretty much whispering): ok, then why don't boys have to shave as well? I mean, it's so gross cause they're all hairy! Like either everyone be hairy or no one! Jelly: I completely agree.
Best Questions/Comments of the Month
Here are some of the greatest questions the students have asked me this month, and some interesting comments, as well. Most of these had me laughing out loud in the middle of class:
1. "Mrs. David, is it true that you were in a punk rock band in high school?"
2. "Do you dye your hair orange or is it just that way naturally?"
3. "Why aren't any of your sisters gingers?"
4. "Is it true that you like screamo music?!"
5. "Mrs. David, can I take your sister to prom?"
6. "You should give us candy every day!"
7. "Look at Mrs. David in them jeans!"
8. "Is it true that gingers have no souls...except for you, Mrs. David, you're exempt!"
9. "Do I really have to do my homework? You know, since it's snowing again..."
10. "If I find out I'm failing and need to take English 10 again, can I keep all my old homework and turn it in again next year?"
11. "I told Mr. Hovell to remind me to get the sheet signed, but then he forgot to remind me and I forgot to remind him about reminding me... so I don't have the sheet signed."
12. "We should have extensions for every assignment! This is a great idea, Mrs. D!"
13. "Is it true that you know karate?"
14. "Is it true that you gave Collin a detention because he put Mitchell's calculator in the microwave?"
15. "It's okay if it doesn't say 'PDA' on the detention slip; just check the 'other' column."
