September 19th, 2018: SAS Meeting
I met with my advisor at SAS today. Our appointment was only supposed to be 30 minutes but it was nearly an hour. We mostly talked about my first full week of uni.She asked about my psychiatrist appointment and how that went. She asked me the doctor’s name and I told her that I had Dr. K. She asked if it was a good connection and I said it was too early to tell. She also asked me how therapy was going but I don’t remember what I said or if I said anything at all.
My advisor asked me how I was concentrating and focusing and stuff and I said I couldn’t. She asked me about assignments and I told her I completed a couple already. She said she was “incredibly proud” and “impressed” because she said I’m not doing well and still managed to complete the assignments. I told her that they didn’t require much thought because I already knew the answers to the assignments.
She said she noticed I dropped down to 4 courses and that she thought it a good idea to drop down to 3. I told her I wasn’t willing to do that and she said that “dropping down to 3 is always an option.” Because of my troubles with concentration and such, she said she would refer me to the SAS note-taking service. It’s where volunteer note-takers take notes of lectures and such and they upload them into the SAS website for select students to access. My advisor also wants me to set up a “peer helper” I think she said it was called. She explained it as a person in my program that is an upper-year student. She had a specific girl in mind for me to meet with to help me with my first year at uni. She wanted the peer helper to help me organize my assignments into a calendar so it would be easier for me to follow. She said it would also give me someone to talk to if I had any questions and such. I was coming to the conclusion that the “peer helper” program is a very rare service from by the way she made it sound.
My advisor wants to meet with me “frequently.” She said she’d like to meet with me next week but I can’t remember the reason why. She said if I ever need to contact her, that I can email her and she’ll try to get back to me as soon as possible. She also said that I can use her drop in hours if I need to see her sooner or need someone to talk to. I’ve forgotten her drop in ours though so that’s not overly helpful.
My SAS advisor said she could tell my concentration and functioning was bad because I had to ask her to repeat herself a couple times because I was focused and drifting off at something else. I told her I was isolating and not socializing and she said something about “paranoid/persecutory thoughts.” I was taken aback because I don’t have those but she was definitely alluding that I did.. I didn’t argue with her though because I don’t want to anger her.
I meet with her next week. I have 4 appointments next week. Someone save me!
