to all experienced road users,
please be kind to learner/student drivers. i know im probably preaching to the choir here, but ive had so many people being absolutely horrible to me (a learner with visibly displayed L plates) on the road. chances are some of you are learners yourself, but if you're an experienced driver please read this /nf
ive had people driving right behind me, honking at me, swerving in front of me to overtake. i understand you might be in a hurry and no one likes going slowly, but we're only just figuring out how to drive this terrifying and complicated machine and learn all the road rules. we've had a matter of months - if not weeks - to learn all of what you've been doing for years. some of you might've been driving for longer than we've been alive. every time you honk at a learner or follow right behind us and give us no space, imagine a scared and stressed teenager at the wheel who's now panicking because we feel terrible about holding everyone up on roads we have every legal right to be on - because that's probably what's happening!
so yes, we might make a few mistakes. we might go a bit slower. but please be patient with us, and give us some grace. ive had some drivers being very kind and courteous, who let me past and take it slow, and i forever appreciate you! ❤️ so could everyone please be more like those drivers? it's the kind thing to do, and it makes us more road confident and less likely to make mistakes, which makes everyone safer. be nice to learner drivers please
also, don't run across the road suddenly if you see us approaching, cos we WILL panic!! just wait!
