A light hike through the woods could be considered a second date, right? That was the thought that hit Decker after an hour or so of being out with Jack. The dogs happily trotting alongside them as they wandered along the trail — It was one Decker was familiar with, at least, so there was no risk of getting lost. He had made sure it was a short one, too, and one to circle back easily.

The end of the trail opened up into a clearing with a lake. A pretty view that and somewhere nice to sit and take a breather. Allow Jasper and Buck to drink some water and rest a little before turning back.

he doesn't do birthdays. okay, he doesn't do his own birthday. and he makes a point to tell everyone he doesn't do them so they don't expect anything from him on theirs. of course, that doesn't mean he doesn't get them anything. he got mcree a belt buckle for this last birthday, and the ninja some sort of delicate fan. he takes pride in knowing his teammates. his family. he loves the look of shock and awe on their face every year when he gets them something. he's not all bad, you know.

jack knows, though. he knows he does this, and he expects something from him. and he's never run into this problem before-- being around someone so often and so much that he's starting to run out of things to give him. there's a small bit of panic inside him as he holds the box full of roses close to him. the website said they were supposed to last and smell for years. it feels stupid. like it's not enough. even though he's planned a fancy dinner for the night as well, put on his formal uniform because it's the nicest thing he owns. he's trying his damndest to make jack feel special today.

cora begged for weeks for someone to smuggle in party favours and decorations so she could pull this off. being heavily advised not to go out often due to still technically being a secret means she gets others to get her stuff she wants. nothing gets cora more excited than planning get-togethers with the team. even if only a few members actually show up. this time it's for winston's birthday.

Morrison's group was next, and from Gabriel's reaction, he knew that the farm boy was in a rough round of treatment. hauling himself up from the floor, his knee's wobbling uncontrollably as he stood at the sink and rinsed his mouth. ❛ I'm fine. ❜ yanking the hand towel off the rack and rubbing it over his face. ❛ I just sick of this shit, sick of being sick.. I can't take this anymore. ❜ he was talking out of his ass, Gabriel knew it but he was frustrated. nearly two months with nothing to show, not now they said it would take more time. they had already lost people. it was hard to be optimistic but giving up wasn't an option. Gabriel tried not to think of how much of difference he could be making now on the field than wasting away-- possibly dying here..

he's too close, a perfect shot to end it all and Reaper does not take it. gun in each hand, Morrison's guard is down- and he still doesn't take it. a plea; stay with him. boots shuffle back to grant himself the space to register the simple request. as if Morrison had asked him something intricate, something unobtainable, impossible. the initial shock is hidden behind his mask and it's quickly replaced with anger. resentment. the memories already long tainted, it was an insult or Morrison was toying with him. rage nestled itself comfortably in his chest, hands clenching tightly on the grip of his shotguns but remained still. does not take the shot. Reaper scoffed, ❛ stay with you... and then what? haven't you taken enough from me. ❜ he growled. ❛ you've done enough. ❜

it's a scary thought. until the end. just them. considering how hard they butt heads sometimes. how many times he's told everyone he hates jack's guts. sometimes he wasn't lying. but-- at the end of the day, it's jack he wants. it's jack's bed he wants to lie in. it's his face he wants to wake up next to every morning. it's always been jack. "we don't get much time to enjoy it." it's said with an air of disappointment. because they don't. god, he wishes they could have more time.
