The Essence Festival, known as “the party with a purpose”, is an annual music festival which started in 1995 as a one-time event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Essence, a magazine aimed primarily towards African-American women. It is held every 4th of July weekend. In 1995 it was held at Saturday, July 1, 1995 - Monday, July 3, 1995 at the Louisiana Superdome, New Orleans, LA, USA with Aaliyah as one of the music lineups.

Aaliyah does an in-store appearance at the Virgin Megastore in London's Oxford Street in London England, United Kingdom and signs autographs for the launch of her album 'Age Ain't Nothing But A Number'.

Aaliyah releases her debut album, "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" in the US.

By July 25, 1994 the album would earn a RIAA Gold status and September 1, 1994 it would go platinum.
