On Thursday we performed the show we’d been working towards since February. I say since February, but we created pretty much the entire show in the 9 days preceding the performance. Talk about last minute planning!
The street circus collective was originally started when Circolumbia came to perform at the Roundhouse for the first time. The idea was to start a social circus programme for kids in London to come and learn, and eventually perform, instead of leaving us to run around the town on a Friday night. To celebrate this, we got to open for Circolumbia on the press night of their new show Acelere. And my god it was incredible.
We had a few issues in our 15 minute set, one large one being that Miles’ hamstring gave out in a pyramid, which was not ideal! But this was quickly fixed by some improv and I’m not sure too many people will have noticed that we made up our own positioning! I somehow managed not to forget all the locking section of our dance which was a miracle but, because a show can never go totally right, I managed to throw a juggling ball halfway across the stage mid-performance. Again fixed by more improv!
It was probably one of the most amazing nights of my life. Performing to a cheering audience of 1400 people gives me a rush like nothing else. Here’s hoping I get to keep it up!
