Maybe at first, we fit. When you’re young, it doesn’t matter how different you are from each other. The naïve thought that love could live on fueled on an almost forced relationship. Maybe once we did love each other. But in the end, opposites do not attract. Two different puzzles pieces don’t complete the puzzle no matter how much you think they do.

I wonder if it was the few arguments we had that started the downward spiral. Yelling to the point where my throat became raw and you doing that silent thing you do whenever you’re angry. There were points in time that we didn’t talk for days until we had to. We pushed the argument to the back of our minds to the best of our ability, but it always stayed, the seesaw starting to wear from overuse.

We were a sinking ship running out of ideas to save everyone on it. It didn’t work this time but at least next time around we know not to try to become something we’re not. Because then everyone becomes a stranger. Is this truly love? Is it truly love when you have to tie yourself to the pure hope that you will live even if you know full well that you cannot escape your inevitable demise? Is it truly love? Or is it all just the thought of getting off this seesaw?

But whoever gets off first is the bad guy. Isn’t that how it works? We both think of the same thing but hate the other for taking action. And who wants to be the only bad guy? Instead, let’s just fool ourselves into believing we’re doing the right thing by staying on this seesaw going up and down. We’re the good guys, right?

This needs to stop. Because eventually, this seesaw will break from the frequent imbalance. But I’m not going to get off anytime soon. And unfortunately, I don’t see you getting off either.
