What he could hear was that somebody was trying to break his shelter door open by force. Some stray porter who had been surprised by the timefall Higgs figured. He couldnât hear what they were saying, the shelter hadnât been built for that. And though he was now thankful for it there had been a time where it had frightened him, but that had been many years ago.
When the rattling at his door didnât stop however Higgs did get up to investigate the situation. Maybe someone really was dying on his doorstep. In which case he might leave them there and later deal with the BT. Just maybe.
He could have unlocked the door from the depths of his shelter and he certainly could have figured out who was outside from there but his curiosity easily got the better of him. So it wasnât exactly a miracle when he opened the door with a gun under his right arm that was loosely pointed at the outside world just in case there really was a BT waiting for him and it was catcher making all that ruckus.
He hadnât been exactly wrong, however the catcher was only making so much noise because it had found something it wanted to have and was pawing at the inside of the entrance of his shelter furiously. He didnât reconise whoever had lead it here but since he was out here, he could just as well do something about it.
With practiced hands he lifted his gun to aim it at the slimy BT leg. It was large enough that he didnât need to do much aiming when it didnât swing around.
Hurt, the catcher roared and retrieved its paw.
Unconcerned about the timefall Higgs followed it to the entrance and angled the gun right at its chest where there was no chiralium to protect it and unloaded another magazine of bullets into its tar body till it retreated. Each burst of bullets driving it away further. His cloak was the only protection he had against the timefall right now, but as long as he stayed underneath the shelters roof it was fine.
