What I did when to read it was a free trial of kindle unlimited, and from there the entire book is free. Provided you can read it within that month and remember to cancel the subscription before it actually charges you.

capri is a very hard series to recommend because it takes a specific kind of reader, and I'm now realizing I've never actually done a proper pitch. so here we go:

Damen is the crown prince of Akielos, but when his brother usurps the throne he's chained and sent to the rival nation of Vere to serve as Prince Laurent's pleasure slave. However, Damen cannot let anyone, least of all Laurent, know who he truly is. Because Damen killed Laurent's brother, an act Vere has never forgiven him for and Laurent will kill him for.

Damen must learn to navigate this new court and figure out how to return home to claim his throne. But the longer he's in Vere, the longer he's with Laurent, the more political machinations he uncovers that link their nations, and the more they must cooperate despite the hostility between them. All while maintaining his anonymity.

Absolute rife with political games, manipulation, betrayal, violence, and questions of power, Captive Prince deals with abuse (including physical, emotional, and sexual), hurt, and what forgiveness is worth, what it truly takes. It is absolutely brutal in that regard, pulling zero punches and giving its premise the gravity it deserves. Damen's enslavement is not used for gratification. it is visceral and uncomfortable. This is absolutely a book to check tws if you're the kind

A lot of people don't make it past the first book, but anyone reading I beg of you do not judge the series based on the first book alone. Book 1 puts all the pieces into position and cannot be taken alone. If you don't want to continue, that's 100% fine, but understand anything you say will be without full context.

my approach to telling people about things is to. not. and just pretend it isn't happening/has always been like this until the moment of change is solidly in the past and then I can casually bring it up as something from a while ago that happened but is now not worth lingering on bc it's been a while
