This was a hard choice creatively. I didn’t want to start Black History Month with the modern face of old school racism, but I did want to make his face known so when baristas are serving him hot coffee, they know whose lap they should spill it into by accident.
Not that I’m suggesting they should.
Imani Gandy is a sometimes co-host of TWiBPrime and writer for the indispensable Rewire.news. I have made a metric ton of these posters featuring her words, and she is the inspiration for why I started Black Feminism Week (This year, July 2nd-6th).
Also, if you are in Western Massachusetts tomorrow there is an opening of Direct Action Comics, which will be featuring APB Artists against Police Brutality, an anthology I am a part of. I will be at the opening which is 4-6pm at Herter Art Gallery on the campus of UMASS Amherst. For more information, check out their Facebook event.
I am actually impressed. I was under no illusion that the Democrats would stand up. Because people like Schumer and Pelosi historically have gone along with what George W. Bush wanted. Until there was an uprising.
Even “Bold” progressives like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are tame (Not one senator signed on with the House with their objection to the ratification of the Electoral College. Just like in 2000. And Joe Biden didn't have the balls to chastise the quiet senators once. He could have and still not broke decorum.) and tend not to want to rock the boat.
I have no doubt that eventually, unless the Democrats can peel off some Republicans, Jeff Sessions will become the next attorney general. That’s a big if. No matter how awesome it was that Senators Feinstein, Leahy, Durbin, Whitehouse, Klobuchar, Franken, Coons, Blumenthal, and Hirono slowed the process down, the conservatives’ whine will allow some of Trump’s appointees to be seated.
We saw this with Elaine Chao. Unlike the rest of Trump’s appointees, she’s actually qualified, however, the point is to grind his administration to a halt so we can slow down the train wreck of destructive policies.
Stall! Delay! Show America that a small government, like the kind Republicans dream of, is an ineffective government. We should not only be trimming away parts that are ineffective, but adding jobs that are needed. We need people who can make this argument,
This was a hard one to write, because I make these images (The easy part) and try to write some kind of artist statement to go with it. I really wish I had a partner on this because I really want to do more this year that tears down Trump. (My plan with my posters for 2017.) Then I want to start laying out ideas to rally around (2018’s plan.) If anyone is interested in helping on the writing side, please let me know.
