An Avengers Beauty And The Beast AU! Why not? Warning for slight sadness and quite a bit of weirdness.
The castle had many closed off rooms, secret doors and hidden passageways. This was unsurprising to Steve, who had spent most of his life crawling around them. True, he was small and fragile, but far too curious in spirit to not enter the nooks and crannies he discovered. He wished he could leave the one he was in now, but although it was unlocked he couldn’t bring himself to abandon his friends. The objects that had become unnecessary, annoying to the prince. The spares that had cluttered the household now resided within this small hidden room. Perhaps it was for the best, as at least they were free from the beast’s tyranny.
Steve had been fairly young when the spell occurred - he was just an apprentice. He scuttled around the halls doing odd jobs day in day out. Then the curse had struck. The witches spell seemed to be smart, as his friends had all been transformed into things that suited them, yet perhaps it’s had made a mistake on him. He often wondered why his small frame and simple mind had been overlooked when his object had been chosen. Take Stark, for example. The man was a genius and intelligent as anything, although no one is quite certain why he’s there in the first place. Rumours suggest that he is a noble’s son sent to learn a few manners; some hint that he is a distant relative of the prince. The two boys were once close, but there was an incident that Stark will not speak about. After that he spent most of his time tinkering away on little projects, occasionally emerging to annoy people in a strangely charming way. These days that isn’t an option. Tony had become a strange metallic thing that he claims to have invented, that glows a majestic blue. It is as bright as his mind, and as cold as his sense of humour. Its smooth shiny surfaces and complicated interior fit him perfectly. The Beast however, soon grew tired of Tony rolling around after him making sarcastic comments, and didn’t truly trust the technology, so he had been sent to the room.
Bruce, now, that was a weird one. The gentle librarian had always been someone whom Steve trusted greatly, and whose warmth had always been a great comfort. He was warmer than ever these days. Steve didn’t really consider fire a household object, but that was what his friend had become. His soft amber flames were placed in the room’s fireplace for safe keeping, and had to be rekindled when he became what Tony referred to as ‘the big guy’. Whenever the usually mild man becomes enraged his flames grown and turn emerald, burning easily through what little wood the fire is stocked with. Steve is terrified that he will go out, but both Bruce and Tony assured him that it’s impossible. They are the bright ones after all.
Then there were the quiet ones. A duo who had been hired only weeks before the event as security. Obviously, they had failed, and so had been sent to Steve’s room for punishment. Rogers liked them, he really did, but sometimes they were a little...strange. The female was a simple clay tea pot. It was worn and a little cracked in places, but beautiful nonetheless. A delicate red pattern ran around the lid and the base, and a slight rattling sound rang out when she moved. Nobody knew what the secretive woman had hidden inside, and nobody dared to ask. Then there was the man. Or rather, the mug. He was just as sarcastic as Tony but in a more goofy way, and coffee sloshed from his sides as he moved erratically around the room. He too could be secretive, and had his own cracks, but often hid them with witty comments. The two were almost inseparable, and Steve missed having that kind of companionship with someone. There had been another apprentice, named James, but Steve hadn’t seen him since the curse fell.
Then there was Thor. Steve still didn’t understand him, and knew that he probably never would. He was loud and boisterous and the curse barely seemed to have affected him at all. He spoke often of his brother, who could apparently change form whenever, and claimed that the spell was probably cast by him. He was certain that any day now he would no longer be a large hammer, but a blacksmith once more (Tony told him again and again that magic wasn’t real, that this was just complex science, but he refused to listen). As confused as Thor made Steve, he couldn’t help but like him. His cheery attitude and positive outlook were nice to have around, especially in such dark times.
The last member of their team was Steve himself. The one that didn’t make sense, and yet the one that they all seemed to look up to. He still wasn’t sure why. He was pretty sure that he had been in an almost constant state of befuddlement ever since that day where he woke up as a sword. Strong and large and shiny, a dependable weapon. Often they congregated around Bruce fireplace as he was the only one of them that struggled to move. Steve sat on a display rack above it, to overlook the sorry state of the room in front of him. There were others in the room, of course there were others, but many preferred to keep to themselves and wallow. But the team, Steve’s team, had had enough. As soon as their escape ticket came flying through the door, a large toy aeroplane by the name of Sam and an attached basket that went by Bucky, they were off. Why wait for that Beastly man to woo some poor unsuspecting girl, when they were perfectly capable of handling their own fates.
If they couldn’t save everyone in the castle then, at the very least, they would avenge them.
