okay so I got sick over te week and instead of crashing for a nap, I sat and watched SteamBoy for a bit!
First off, the animation style is legacy-based; the creators of the Akira OVA lead this production and you can see very distinct lineart and color palettes that are both reminiscent yet unqieu of their biggest project.
Secondly, it is a fascinating take on how technology will inhertiedly be used for evil and colonisation, or at the very least political suppression. SteamBoy seems to be rooted in greed for knowledge and the thrill of risk-taking, where our two titular characters Ray and Scarlet the polar opposites. I especially enjoy that, while Scarlet is pretentious and privileged, she is wicked smart and fearless.
Overall, very fun watch! And mild spoiler, but it has a lot less stakes on hand as opposed to Akira, which means (for me) you can watch it before bed and not be laid up pondering the fabric of our reality. :')
I recently watched "Steamboy". The plot is a bit thin, but it's possibly the most gorgeous animation I've ever seen. The level of detail is insane.
