Status report: Well, I have a confession.

I was at the midpoint of DARKENED TABULA.

After starting ever so slowly, my editing and rewriting, as well as the story itself, took off. And it flowed. There were two narrators in this one like DARKCHILDE. It was hard getting used to Ebony's voice again. I was so sure I would go back over her sections again and make more changes. Meanwhile, I found reluctantly that Daniel's voice I nailed perfectly. Again. 

I was getting the emotional beats again. I couldn't wait to dive into Daniel's. I had recently rewatched the cancelled show DOLLHOUSE. One of my disappointments in Season 2 was that as the season progressed, it was clear that Echo, Eliza Dushku's character, was becoming her own person. And that person was on a collision course with Caroline, the person she was before she was forced into the Dollhouse. So what was more important, the body (Echo) or the soul (Caroline)? If they were two different people who deserved to be in the body? To die? It was heady stuff...that if I remember correctly was dealt with in a minute scene in the deleted scenes on the Season 2 box set.

There was a lot of that I saw in Daniel's arc in DARKENED TAUBLA. That would come in handy. 

I had arrived at one of my major plot points. All that I had been building exploded at a meeting between all of the officials that run the dystopian world that I had created. A lot of what I've set up in the novel was set to head off in a new direction. However, I had decided to write a new book. With that in mind, I felt the scene was too major of a scene to explode in Book 3.

It also was Ursula's physical entrance. Her presence was felt all through the novel, but here she stepped onto stage. Without that scene, there was no reason for her to be in the book.

Anyone who has been with me since I've created Ursula knew...that was not happening. Divas got what they want. :D :D 

So I came to a compromise. Now I was about to see...if it paid off...

Status report: I was excited.

It was during watching a new episode of THE BOLD TYPE and before an at-home workout.

I finished DARKENED TABULA.

THAT'S RIGHT!!!! it was hard to believe that I started on it during NaNoWrImO this past November if I remembered correctly. And now it was done.

I said a while ago that I suspected the light at the end of the tunnel when the ending occurred to my mind's eye. As I continued to write, the ending became clearer and clearer. There were still some questions that only my characters had, but I kept on.

So how did it turn out for me?

I admit that it was hard to see where Ebony would turn up. I felt that I had given her a definite happy ending at the end of DARKCHILDE. Not withstanding the twist at the end. Of course, it affected her. And in this book she started it in a good place. But the end...well...that would be a doozy. After all can a relationship survive the presence of old exes...

Meanwhile, there was the actual ending. I was surprised when it came to me months ago. I was also excited.

There was a character that I introduced in a short story that was in my collection DARKENED SOUL: PIECES OF A DARKENED PUZZLE. One with a history with some of my recurring characters. In fact SPOILER ALERT a lot of that history is in my forthcoming novel DARKENED SOUL: THE BREAKING OF CIRCLES. However, I knew he would be a major player in DARKENED TABULA. So much so that the ending and his history allowed for my main character to cross with another recurring character from DARKCHILDE. She made a promise to Ebony. And now...she had a dangerous trump card. However will she play it.

Already excited for Book 4....

Status report: Sometimes one needs a break.

I've been working on something un-Darkeneverse for a while. And it has been great at some times. Other times...not so much. More like pulling teeth. lol. And I decided with #NaNoWriMo this month, that now would be nice to have a break. So I decided to work on a #new Darkenverse tale.

  So how has it been?

Well, as those who have followed this page often, I tend to write short stories taking place in my Darkenverse. And I had done a few short stories on the villains in my latest novel DARKENED TABULA the Forryn. So my NaNoWriMo #project is a sequel/prequel to those stories #here.

  There were hints of this story in DARKENED TABULA. It played on the history. And it's been leading to that. So here I was working on it.

And yesterday's scene...saddened me. Why? Because it was a nice and #intimate moment. And it was a moment...that would not last.
